Over black friday, I picked up 3 3TB external hard drives from best buy. I have a Optiplex 745 (q6600, 6GB ram with 2 nics) as an ESXi 5.0 server. Since I'm on break for the holidays, I was wondering what would be the best way to use these drives.
I plan on taking them out of their enclosures. I need all of the storage to be accessible over the network to Win, Lin, and Mac and will probably use samba in some capacity. I also would like to make full use of the gigabit nics I have in the server. Through experience I have seen my performance lower than what it could be. Right now I don't have any raid card, although I am open to buying one if it's cheap enough, since I am going to move my current cpu/mobo to the server when I upgrade to Ivy Bridge. (no point in buying SB now, imo)
Currently the server has 1 320gb hdd and 2 1.5TB hdds. It's also at capacity for hard drives. I would like to use these as well, but there is no more room.
