Looking to add a USB 3.0 pcie-x card to run my front USBs. Just wondering which chipset is the fastest and most reliable. Seems like the most common are Reneasa, Via, and NEC. I'm am only going to run 2 front ports and I will be looking for a powered card just for the peace of mind that I will be able to power whatever I plug into it. Linkage with your suggestions is always good ;) Pre-thanks!

Think you actually want a PCIE card.. sorry, pet peeve.

Check which chipset mfg has a better driver download site.

And pretty much anything is better than ASMedia.

Mine is a Renesas usb 3.0 (best buy generic) and never any issue with mine. Windows 10 either already has the driver or auto downloads them....older win versions yea probably have to use a disk or download the drivers. I do wish there was a way to boot off the one i got if there even is a way. Would be nice to actually do installs with full usb 3

Same chip-set question and is it backwards compatible with everything else? I've seen it out there just haven't read into it...

I have that renesas I picked up at Altex a month or so ago. Has the regular USB port and the C port I think they call it. Worked great in my 2008 Windows server. Needed an X4 slot so I stuck it in an X16 slot I had on it.

Renesas is NEC and they are the best third party USB controller manufacturer.
