I am looking at getting a UPS for my System. The system has a PCP&C 510SLI PSU.... what UPS do you reccommend?

I can tell you from experience that APC UPSes are very good. Right now I have the APC Back-UPS ES series, and It works awesome. I've had one power outage so far since I've had it (about 5 months) and it kept everything on. I have my computer, monitor, speakers, printer and network hub plugged into the UPS, and when the power went out, they were all still on! The UPS I have is rated for about 19 minutes of power, but It's actually good for about 68 minutes. I was surfing the net and printing papers, even with the power out! So I definitely say go with APC.

dont have great experience with ups's but i got a belkin rated at 1200v. its rated at up to 100mins but with my setup i probably can get 20-30mins tops. it really depends on how much watts your system is using. i'm probably at around 250-300.

i've gotten two blackouts for a split second so far when it was raining for days here in cali. worked great for me.

i think most of the ups come with software that will automatically shut down your computer for you if the blakcouts are in a long duration. so its great investment.

Is that for that dual Opteron box? I'd pick up at least a 700VA unit, and I'll second that APC is a pretty darn good brand. Battery life on a UPS drops pretty dramatically when you load it over half capacity. I would not consider 1000VA overkill for a dual Opteron system, and it's only going to give you more battery life and more room to grow in exchange for more bucks.

Sam's Club still has some APC Back Up Pro 1100's for $125, these were $454 2yrs ago. ;)
They use RS232 serial port instead of USB.

Best? that gets rather expensive quickly :p

a Liebert "true online" UPS (not a line interactive)
and its going to be quite expensive with little realworld edge over far cheaper line interactive UPSs

get the smallest true online they make

hmm...maybe not seems they go down to 500VA,
Id say your likely in the 1.5KVA range with extras (I have an old 1.4KVA Best Power Ferrups)

the great advantage of an online is the easily expandable batteries to increase your off the grid uptime
that and complete isolation from the mains, no possibility of any surge
drawback is the expense and reliability of the always on inverter

or make your own out of high quality parts
