I've just upgraded from two Philips 17inchs to two ASUS 22inchs.
Really happy with my new monitors.

Only problem is, is my 9600GT was struggling with 1280x1024 resolution. Now it has to deal with 1680x1050.

Overall my PC is old. I don't want to do a full upgrade at the moment. I'm holding out for Intel i7 towards the end of the year. However my 9600GT isn't cutting it.

I'm in New Zealand, so everything is 100% more expensive so be prepared for bizarre prices below.. I've looked into my options and I could do the following:

1. Buy a second 9600GT for $150 and do SLI
2. Buy a 4850 for $280 and sell my 9600GT for $150, total cost to me $130
3. Buy a 4870 512mb for $365 or a GTX 260 896MB for $389

What would be my best option for best FPS / price?
 
out of what you listed the 4850. those are some hard prices (or at least looks like it) but a 4850 is fine, if anything you need to upgrade your cpu and such. next best is the GTX260,
 
I'd advise against SLI here. For best all-around performance, pick up a GTX260. There have been many here for relatively cheap. You should be able to find somebody willing to ship it internationally. Does customs charge you the additional 100%?
 
The HD 4850. Your CPU really can't do justice to anything stronger. You should get pretty decent performance out of that pair though. My CPU/GPU is more or less the same caliber and it does well with a 22 inch monitor.
 
Alright cheers guys. Looks like the 4850 is it, its a pretty good upgrade and won't cost me the earth.

Getting stuff shipped internationally typically and costs a lot of money. Not to meation its coming a long way and will take a few bumps.

They are hard prices. Its crazy the amount of money we pay for stuff over here compared to the US.
