I want a good PCI TV Tuner card. I'm looking at the ATI TV Wonder and the Leadtek TV2000XP.

Is there any difference in picture/capture quality between the two? What is the best card for $100 or so?

And I tried to find some reviews, but a quick google didn't turn up much.

Id go with the TV2000. Ive seen them in action on a few occasions and there pretty damn flawless. I cant speak for the ATi, youll have to find someone else or a review. But I can say that the LeadTek is simply amazing.

I have the TV2000 XP Deluxe, the ATI TV Wonder Pro, and a 9000 AIW card. In my opinion, the hardware was about the same in each....picture quality the same I mean. However, the software and remote with the ATI products is much much better.

Hmm.

Should I get a Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 or the Prolink PlayTV PVR with the Conexant CX23883?

DON'T GET the ATI. It's absolute garbage. The quality of the video (when it works) is pretty poor as well.

I picked up the Leadtek after I tried the ATI, it's much better, more stable, decent quality. For 50 bucks, it's worth it.

I Own the Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 XP Deluxe .... i like it alot, and its really great for normal usage (watching tv, recording some video). But if you are going to be doing some heave duty video importing with different resolutions and such, then the HAUPPAUGE would be the way to go, i have heard that those cards are amazing.. but this Leadtek is good too, you just have to use hacked drivers and some other programs to import video with different codecs/resolutions and such..

got winfast tv2000 expert here. works fine. quality is decent and you have lots of options for recording. but it used to lock up when I loaded the TV program, ive got the latest PVR prog and drivers a few days ago and so far its been fine

Well which is better? Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 or the Conexant CX23883 chipset?

I have an ATI AiW 9800 Pro right now, but I'm thinking of selling it and getting a 9800 Pro and standalone TV Tuner.

well, I would say leadtech, personally I'm using an old avermedia tv mono card and the atimultimedia software "easy tv" w/ my remote wonder vs1. the atimultimedia sofware works as long as you are using an ati card. Most conextant based tv tuners will work with it, but they are "unsuported".

If you want the best quality the Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 is your best bet. I personally don't like their apps but hardware is what counts. You've correctly realized that the leadtek and ATI offerings are software based so performance and quality will not be as good as hardware based items like the Hauppauge WinTV PVR250. Check out http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ for some even higher end products.

well you can see the Conexant chip on the Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 card in the newegg product images...

doesnt mean its accurate just makes you wonder what chipset it uses, whether its the CX23883 chipset or not.

I can give you some advice, own the Radeon AIW 7500, an AIT TV wonder, the winfast TV2000 hell even got a VooDooTV card from way back. Recently I bought a new card And one you might concider this card as Im now picking up my second one which is a Dvico Fusion2 in a few days.

The TV wonder con: will not have a capture over 320 by 240.
Pros its a PCI slot and you can upgrade the GPU and not be stuck telling someone you have to use an outdated video card. Also the Gemstar program guide is nice. Remote is a bonus!

The AIW as long as its a PC you dont want to upgrade video cards with its fine. Also you can capture at higher than 640 by 480 with various codecs. Price may be a concern.

The Winfast TV2000 captures 640 by 480 on the PCI bus has radio capture of MP3 so the RIAA can't try to rape you. And the remote is nicer.

If you were going to go the route of buying an AIW I highly sugest that you pick up the FUSION HDTV2 card instead.
The reason is that this card can do cable and with a $20 radio shack yagi antenna I picked up 3 channels in HDTV! You can capture the video in full HDTV resolution (8.5gigs an hour) and compress and encode it to DVD later if you wish. COST $150. Yeah its fifty dollars more than you post was looking for but look at it this was. regular definition is dead in a few years and HDTV is going to be the only broadcast signal. So for $50 dollars more you are not going to be obsolete in 3months.
FCC says:
"All U.S. TV stations must broadcast digitally by May 1, 2003, as the current analog TV spectrum is scheduled to revert back to the FCC on January 1, 2007. "
Digital HDTV is here in 16by9 and 5.1 sound boadcasting over the air you might already have the signal hitting your house. Check to see if you can get it
HERE The Dvico FusionHDTV2 card has dual inputs so you can have your regular cable too. If you only pick up PBS once you see the picture you will agree it was worth the extra $50.

does anybody know if the leadtek 2000 Xp tv tuner will work with direct tv ( satalite ) is there any other thing i would have to buy to make it work? i can bring a tv and a direct tv box in my room. looks like a good price.

What's the "MSI PCI TV/FM Tuner Card REMOTE Model TV@nywhere Plus" like? I want a TV card just for recording TV/Video's to my PC. It doesn't need to do anything particularly complicated, just record decent quality TV. Would that work ok on a low-ish end PC? (1.3Ghz Athlon T-Bird with 512MB 333Mhz DDR ram).
