Best thermal adhesive

I'm looking for the best thermal adhesive to mount things such as a SB heatsink and memory heatsinks. It may or may not be permanent... preferabbly removable later.

some people swear by placing in each corrner a small spot of anytype of adhesive, then for the majory use as5 in the center. (so if its a ram chip, each corner would have the TINIEST spot of adehisive, then the rest would be AS5 spread out over it. that way it stays on, but you get the quality of AS5.

mind you Im not so sure I would want to do that, its frag tape for me on anything where i MIGHT want to get it off in the future

Definitely, the arctic silver stuff is the best, but what about those who dont want to spend the 10 bucks on a tiny crack bottle sized tube? I want something the size of a toothpaste tube, and I dont really mind what type it is, whether it is the "best" or some generic crap that they use at the factories to put my northbridge hs on. If it does its job reasonably, its good enough for me. I'll attatch a hs on to it, have enough air flow in the case, and the board wont burn up and my stability will increase. BUt I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND 10$ A BOTTLE! Anybody know where they sell em that big?

For what you are doing I'd say go with Arctic Silver 5. It's pretty easy to apply and remove, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Gakoe, I spent 6.50 on a tube of AS5 and it's enough for me to do all my heatsinks if i wanted to, you don't need a toothpaste sized tube unless you're building a bunch of PC's or something. One little bead does the trick for even the big heatsinks like CPU...

I've got AS5, but for some reason when I used it, compared to the thermal paste that came with my stock and Tt HSF, it ran about 8-10 degrees hotter.

Give it time to cure. Did you follow the proper instructions on the Artic Silver website? The point is not to add a huge glob as TIM is nowhere near as good a heat conductor as copper. You just want to add a very thin layer to fill in the spaces between the core and hsf base.

Ahh, while I did not gorge a huge amount of it on the core, I did however put a little bit more than was needed. That's perhaps where it went wrong.

AS5 isn't (theoretically) electrically conductive, is it? Hmm, with the amount you spread onto the core anyways, it shouldn't touch the bridges at all.

It's semi-conductive theoretically since it is silver-based. But I've never heard of people having problems with its conductivity. Ceramique is non-conductive.

Artic Silver epoxy cut 1:1 with Artic Silver so you can remove it later using the "freezer trick". It works well and is a lot better than thermal tape.

Damn wish I knew about this last year or so. HS on my 9700 Pro is put on with AS epoxy and isnt going anywhere in this lifetime.
