Can anyone recommend a good test app for detecting dead/stuck pixels?

How big are the pixels? Will I need a magnifying glass? Do they look like a spec of dust on the screen?

Thanks

they are pretty easy to see with the naked eye. im new at this but there is 2 types of dead pixels, the type that is dark and the ones that are bright.
1 open paint and paint it white and full screen. any black dots are dead pixels.
2 open paint and paint it black any pink/read pixels are dead pixels.
they are not dust like since if u look closely u can see the "square" shape of them

I use udpixel, since it also has a flashing tool to fix "stuck" ones with. But it is basically a program that can switch the screen to displaying various colors, you can then spot pixel defects against them.

Pixel size is dependent upon your resolution and screen size. Whether or not you need any vision aids would be dependent on your eyesight and screens PPI (pixels per inch).

The appearance varies depending on the screen and defect type. But basically if you display a solid color, any defect will stand out as that pixel will not look that color. It could be brightly lit of one color, black, or white.

Or don't go looking for them at all because once you find one then you'll always look at it and notice it, it even frustrates some people depending on who they are and how noticeable the pixel is.

Unless you're doing it for warranty/exchange purposes of course (?)

Ok, finally found a pixel test program for Mac.

There was 1 black dot showing at the exact same spot (just off center left) on every color I tested.

Red - did not see any more than the 1 black dot at the same spot

Blue - saw one more other black dot

Green - did not see any more than the 1 black dot

Black - I saw 3 white dots at various places on the screen, including where the usual black dot is.

White - I saw the same black dot plus a multi-colored dot a few inches away.

What do I conclude from this? I guess I have one dead pixel for sure. But as for the other colors, I'm not sure how to interpret this, especially for the Black test.

You have both dead and stuck pixels. The dead black pixels are gone forever, while the ones that are "stuck" on a color may be revivable with a pixel exerciser (google for programs).

Stuck pixels are not always visible, sometimes you need to have a certain color on the screen to spot them, it also depends on what color the stuck pixel is.

And to think you would have been happy in ignorance by not looking for them, now you'll forever focus on them :p

Actually, they don't bother me any more than if I hadn't known about them. I was just curious because I had never investigated dead pixels before. Incidently, the pixels are really not that easy to spot. I had to squint to see them, and to get a good look at them I used a magnifying glass. My panel is a 24" iMac with 1920 X 1200 resolution. So I had to go over a lot of area.

What do the three white dots on the black background test mean? Are these stuck or dead pixels?

Also, should I conclude from my test that I have 1 dead pixel and about 3 stuck ones?
