Best Tablet

i'm liking it, great device, runs pretty cool even when pulling full watts/power, never topped 72c sitting in an 85f room(core temp that is), for a laptop at 2.66 Ghz with hyperthreading that doesnt seem too bad....other than that, bat life cant be better, i just figured out how to disable touch for when i'm using the pen so it doesnt move all around, and probably will save some bat :)

it does all I want it too, and weighs less than my Dell 1521, even with the Slice which is much thiner than I thought....

all inn all very happy with it and would do it again as long as I have a need for it....

only small complaint is that iDeneb wont load :( , that and I have to get used to the sides of the keyboard having two clips(for when the screen is rotated, they lock it in), just weird to me, well foreign to my hands....the touch keybaord takes some getting used to it

that and the rotation doesnt always go the way I want it to, it goes the way it should(so the buttons on the side go correctly, and the heat exhausts up and away instead of down towards me, so cant complain about that :p)

Awesome, glad you're liking it. Yeah I don't quite get the clip thing on the 2740, I think that HP has had those on other business class machines as well but not on their consumer models which have never really had a problem with the screens staying locked. And screen rotation on HP convertible tablets is just broken by default, both my tx2 and tm2 have the same problem I simply don't get the deal why they've not fixed that. You should be to find so hacks over a Tabletpcreview.com to help with that.

well, actually I can manually setup the screen's viewing orientation, thats not an issue, just be default the screen goes only one way when put in portrait mode, and one way when in landscape.....only a minor nuisance since it does keep hot exhaust away from me

i think the clips are there for more stability when turned into tablet mode. there is nearly no "give" when i am using the screen

Automatic screen rotation always comes up as an issue for HP convertibles, not that screen doesn't rotate just to clarify. As for the clips the HP consumer models have never had an issue with their screens stay secure, that's actually something that HP consumer units have been great at so I don't really know why they neednthem on the business class devices, I'm sure it can help but that's just never been a problem with HP convertibles.

well ya, so far no issues, loving ti and its weight....

was wondering if there is a way to not have the screen on IE8 auto zoom in, i like the smaller typing, not something that auto fits to the screen.....just a little issue when i'm not using the touch fuctionality

Huh? Not sure what you mean about IE 8 autozooming, I've never seen that. It does do pinch zoom and two finger instant zoom but nothing automagic. Do you have IE's zoom factor at something other than 100%?

whatever stock is, where is the change for it ??

i'm a chrome guy, using IE since it has better touch features

In the botttom right you should the zoom factor, just set it to whatever you want. Yeah, IE works better in touch than the other browsers at the moment though Firefox 4 has just added a LOT of Windows 7 features including touch, the only thing they don't have is two finger instant zoom. You have to pinch zoom in however you can two finger zoom back out to the default zoom factor, something that I figure they will iron out, seems like an oversight or bug.

I'm hoping that IE 9 adds some nice touch enhancements as well.

ahh, ill take a look later, using it off to my side to watch some vids while i do stuff on my other two monitors

heatless, one question......with the keyboard, virtual one, can it be "skinned" so when i hold the tablet i can thumb type? instead of having to chicken peck wiht one hand?

heatless.....got a real good question for ya......cant find info on google, so lets see if you can beat google !

how the hell do i use the damed fingerprint sensor....and where the hell is it? ive found a small black strip on the side of the monitor, is that it?(makes sense for tablet use to have it there, but not desktop .... just curious if yuo know.....help very much appreciated.

heads up to anyone interested, took me a while, and some checking of stuff coming out of bags....

the way i got to the finger print is probably not the easiest way.....i found in one of the bags a CD of software, in there was a CD with lotsa software, one of the software items was an HP protect thingy, and after installing that, i was able to configure the finger print reader.....which is pretty dam good actually, not one error yet(done it like 10 times to be sure), and will store all 10 fingers lol

Little update for you guys

Had plenty of hands on with the tablet now, and hot dam i love it.......Best purchase i coulda made, use it daily for 2-8 hours sometimes more.......hell usign it now while my gamer folds.....anyhow---One Note is great, i've ended up using Ubuntu 10.10 since its release(touch was fully implemented finally)....Only go to Windows 7 if i need to use One Note(as of now one class three times a week) or if i am sitting idle and want to play some Company of Heros ( which this thign runs like a champ)....

Glad you like it! Yeah, might play with Ubuntu again, looks pretty good with touch from what I've seen but I use handwriting recognition all the time on my tm2 outside of OneNote so I wouldn't be able to use Ubuntu much.

hmm, i dotn use it much.....the Unity interface is pretty nifty as well for 10.10 ..... not fully refined but getting to that point, i have the full install on, then did the unity overlay as well so i can swap, still workign on getting auto rotation, or atleast the hot button for it, working, and cnat for the lfie of me figure out how to disable touch and leave the pen enabled.....but that doesnt matter much since WINE and Office arnt playign nice(hence me needing to go to windows for One note)

but ya, the touch didnt need allibration or anything(dont know if that is done on the hardware level when i did it in windows), worked great out of the box, hell the bat life is only about 1/2 hour of fof windows(only it cannot swap between batteries automatically, and it choses the slice as the "main" one to drain first)

Calibration, intresting topic, I don't calibrate any of my Tablet PCs anymore, a lot of people don't anymore from what I've been seeing.

i did once, since well i was trying to figure everything out ;)
