another update:

i got fed up with the site(to check order status) so I just went and called their support..... apparently the ship dates ive got are wrong...it ships tomorrow, the OSS HP site says yesterday, e-mail from support says today, support guy says tomorrow LOL.....anyhow, finished today apparently(updated this morning)....got 3 day shipping(because of backorder !?!?), should have friday, ill update then
 
What a coincidence, Friday is when I'm supposed to get the W100. Let's hope everything pans out for us, getting new toys on a Friday is just the best day of the week!:D
 
it is....but ive got this week off lol....have classes starting monday......guess this means i get a bunch of fun this weekend finding out about my new toy!

Yeah, not suprising as Toshiba did say that it would be on sale state side this month. I ordered my last month and its in the mail so just the price of being impatient!:D

The difference seems to boil down to the WiMax radio in the W100 being sold in Japan and it comes with two batteries a 2 and a 4 hour, not sure if the W105 does but my guess is that it doesn't as this device costs more in Japan. Worth the $500 no but this device said buy me the second I saw it, I LOVE the form factor and Toshiba as been VERY coy about how many it would make but at this price I figured it wouldn't be hard too find but better safe than sorry. It'll be a while before we'll see another science experiement like this come along and actually make it to market.

But at any rate I'll have mine in the good old USA and everyting else will be waiting, just my e-pen acting up.;)

jk....your new TM2 will put mine to shame(....graphics and ram wise)
 
Hey its all good! Really I like the 2740, HP has really done a VERY good with their tablet this year, they have been there from day one and they've actually stuck with it very well, every year they seem to actually innovate a bit. It will be intresting to see who the Palm aquisition effects their commitment to Tablet PCs and the way they just left the HP Slate in limbo was a bummer but I keep hearing that thing is going to come with an ACTIVE digitizer. Probably means that they went to Plan B and that they are going to cost a LOT more than $500 dollars but at the same time it could be a very popular device if its in the $700 category as nothing in that price range has an active digtizer in slate form.

We shall see and good luck getting the machine in on Friday, looks like the timing is gonna be perfect!

Hmmm. The gloved hand thing doesn't make any sense for a resistive digitizer. Funny, the glove thing is trendy with iPad folks. Yeah so magical you need to wear a glove to draw on it properly!

But this looks like a Hanvon Slate, the market is about to become flooded with these devices with pretty much identical specs though these guys went with a mechanical HD.

i gotta say for a tech company, HP's order viewing thing is seriously flawed......their standard status page(the 1st one they give you) shows my tablet as estimated arrival of 7/30/2010....obv wrong....but it then says shipped(thats new as of today).....but no tracking info...guessing I just caught it on a server refresh......ill edit or update in the morning to see if i get a tracking #
 
Yeah HP's web site needs a SERIOUS overhaul but I've ordered about 6 times from there over the last two years and while clunky the info was correct. But it will take a day for the shipping info to get in place, all their custom order stuff ships from Shanghai and it takes about a day for the order info to get updated once a package leaves China the couple of times I've have something from HP ship from there.
 
checked a moment ago....and ive got shipping info...strangely its in two shipments....wondery why? PC and then dockingstation/slice? guess ill find out......anyhow its coming via Fed Ex, which funny enough has 3 or 4 stops per day in my neighboorhood(one for each different "Branch" sometimes two for ground)....lets hope it shows up on time :)


edit: i hope its a bunch of stuff....... 22.3 lbs shipweight! for an "ultra portable" device LOL

ya for fedex updating one of the two shipments.....

the one ive got info on, i assume the tablet itself, is 8.2 lbs below what HP has on their shipping site, so I am assuming the docking station and slice are coming from within the us(it has yet to update on Fed EX

it says it will be here Aug 20, before 10:30 AM.....livable since ill be home :)
 
Yeah that makes sense, there's probaply a stock of the other stuff state side. Been looking at my W100 shipping info too, says it just left Japan so hopefuly it'll be in Alaska later today.
 
Just looked at Conics.net and they just raise the price of their W100 by $50, seems odd since the unit was just annouced for sale in the states for much less than the $1460 they are charging, although they do throw in a small battery and the Japanese version has integrated WiMax which I'm going to check out. 3G is pretty cool but it has fits inside concrete buildings and such, I though WiMax was not as subject to problems with signal strenght like that. Sprint has a way to sign up for it for a day for $10, I'll check it out and if it works for me I might actually get this service.

If you're on the East Coast it'll go from Shanghai to Anchorage to Indianapolis to Memphis I believe. My tm2 made that trip in a weekend to North Carolina. FedEx is awesome, but a transporter would be even more so! I feel you, waiting just sucks. Just another 2 1/2 days for both of us!:D

i think its stopping by Indianapolis(where the HP site says part of it is), and probably being put with the parts that were stateside......i'm in FL so ya east coast
 
I would think that the stuff thats stateside would just ship by itself and then come together at your location, that I've seen plenty of times.
 
why is it that in the 10 min drive from my house to the gym i saw 6 separate FedEx trucks....and i typically see none.....
 
Wow that's an AWESOME DEAL! A maxed out tm2 with 2 batteries and an external BD drive. The tm2 plays Blu Rays great with Arcsoft's TMT3 software and this this can game half decently as well. For $1000 you're not going to find any mobile device with more functionality.

Even though I have the original tm2 I'd buy one of these if I didn't have a W100 on the way, which is now stateside in Alaska, come on Friday!
 
BTW, for that deal, if you don't want the BD drive, take it out and add instead 8GB of ram. Coupon still works. Comes out to $1,073.74 for me after CA tax.
 
I upgraded from 6 to 8 GB didn't notice any difference, the BD is more useful I think but nice option anyway.
 
my tablet is in transit from Shanghi still....not sure why it tells me that two times.....the only thing i dont like about Fed Ex is their tracking....UPS has much better tracking.....

shipping update...as of Aug 18,2010 at 12:39 PM, it was in Anchorage....seems that FedEx is more than 12 hours behind in updating :p i figure its in Indianapolis atleast now!
 
Actually I think FedEx's system is real time, your package might be waiting to clear customs. My W100 just left Anchorage about two hours ago after a 12 hour stay on its way to Indy. Don't worry, once it left Anchorage it'll haul ass, once in Indy it'll be on to Memphis within no time and once there it's practically at your door step.

Well, it left at 4:30, didnt have that at 7:30ish when I last checked :p , though UPS isnt much better, just better details in it, though when it gets here it gets here(before sat that is).....i figured once it hits the states it will be good....probably had customs in China, and again in anchorage(which took 3 hours after leaving international shipping, customs i would assume, before it went back to "in transit")

Not to let Bahamut (just teasing;)) spoil our fun, my W100 just arrvied in Indy so yey, should have it by Friday afternoon at the latest.:D

Current status, as of 8:18, is "On FedEx vehicle for delivery.....I'm going to assume its coming with two of the three books i ordered from Amazon yesterday....ill have pictures up if it shows up today....

btw- it went from Anchorage to Memphis, bypassed Ini

edit: just arrived, HP had the right delivery date, Fedex was about 24 hours off :p

Congrats! Yeah my W100 is should be today as well. My package went to Indy but skiped Memphis which is odd for FedEx cause just about everything goes through there.

Enjoy and let us know. I'll DEFINATELY be commenting on the W100.
 
ill get pics of it later, i took the bat downt to the 30's....just put it on the docking station so it has a full charge when I go to use it for real....just been doing setup and updates.....going to be a bit tough to get used to touch but ill manage


i think i can even fold on this in the PPD/Watt.....it has a built in watt reader :) by by everyone in that competition for w/ppd!
