I know i'm not the first opening a topic like this, so here's my setup

Silverstone SG03 with windowed sidepanel and top blowhole
DFI LP JR P45-T2RS
Intel E8400 E0
OCZ 4x2GB 1066MHz Reaper
2x HD4830OC / 4850 / 4770
I've already got all the parts (except for the GFX-cards obviously)

The E8400 has already proven itself by running @ 4GHz and I'd like to achieve a similar OC in the SG03 but one thing i can't decide on, is the HSF. I've already narrowed the list down to just 2 HSF's:
Enzotech Ultra-X / Extreme-X (€ 65,-)
Silverstone NT06-E (€ 45,-)

Both HSF's should perform quite well when combined with a 135mm PSU-fan (either Silverstone ST70F or Cooler Master Silent Pro M700) but which one is best capable one for reaching 4GHz?

I've read plenty of reviews, but I like to know the temps of what CPU/HSF-combo's you're running at what speeds.

They'll both perform the same. You can opt to do a Noctua C12P mod and trim the top fins to make it level with the PSU for some lower temps.
 
I've been thinking about that one too, but because of the Reaper modules i have to trim the bottom fins aswell, so it'll reduce the surfacearea even more.
I don't think it's worth the price+effort

May I suggest another option. Since you've provided the blowhole on top of the case, why not go watercooling? Swiftech single 120 slim radiator, waterblock integrated pump. You can top that blowhole with a nice grill. The NT06's orientation w/regards to the PSU intake fan isn't "spot on" for some motherboards.
 
I considered going with one of the heatsinks listed here for my SG03, but I ended up turning my PSU around so it draws air from the side panel, and installed a Scythe Shuriken on my e8400.
Runs great, the fan doesn't ramp up as long as I have the two front 120mm fans moving at ~800rpm or so. I have it OC'ed to 4ghz as well, getting load temps of mid 60's which I consider reasonable given the circumstances.

Thought of that too, but that's on the long term. I don't have a budget for watercooling the entire system. Cause if I do, it's not just the CPU that's gonna get good ol' H2O.
Besides the grill for the top blowhole is made of the mesh that came out of the sidepanel

Nice temps, but did you use the stock thermalpaste or did you switch to AS5?

How about if I remove the NT06's shroud? Wouldn't that improve the airflow around and through the fins? That way I might avoid your PSU intake/exhaust issue right?
 
What PSU intake/exhaust issue are you talking about? And the shroud isn't big to begin with, something to mount a fan on. Not like it restricts anything.
 
I think I'm gonna go for the Enzotech, a little recapp:

- It comes supplied with AS5
- The heatpipes have a larger transfer capacity
- Recently Enzotech released an i7 retention module, which keeps it futureproof.

Just wish it wouldn't be this expensive...
 
Um, my issue was finding a PSU that had a fan to blow air out in addition to the intake fan, nothing to do with the HSF. And the Enzotech and NT06 really have no differences between them, I've had them all and the thing about passive HSFs with a PSU exhaust is that they're all gonna get hot as hell, and your bottleneck is your lack of a real exhaust fan, not HSF selection. I think it's a 10$ difference between them, *shrugs*. The fan supplied with the Enzotech is a piece of shit anyways unless you like them loud.

Someone did this about a year or so ago. The reason, if I remember correctly, was that removing the shroud saved him a mm or two in space so he could get the NT06 to fit his build. Near as I can remember there was no noted improvement in cooling performance. No detriment in performance either.

I largely agree with lowteckh; with a passive setup there really isn't much performance to be had without having a really loud psu fan. That said, I do recall someone replacing their psu fan with a Noctua NF-P12.. I think it was a Corsair PSU as well. That would probably be a good bet if you don't mind voiding your warranty.

Also, my Shuriken uses stock TP.

That is the best aircooling available for the Sugo, but requires about 1 hour to mod the Noctua
 
The cooling results of the C12P mod are impressive, no doubt about it. It even was my favourite cooling option until I figured out it blocked a RAM-slot, althought I could be wrong.
Gonna double check the dimensions.

Just get a NT-06E or EnzoTech Extreme. Unless you're going to be overclocking like mad, you really won't notice a difference.

Oh and any pics. of the blowhole on your SG03? I'd like to see how it looks compared to mine.
 
Well, like I said before, I'd like to get up to 4GHz or very close near it. It's not like I need a LN2-rig.
Anyway, I never could find the load temps of your Q6600. Just that your idle temps dropped by about 10°C, nor the speed it was running @.
About the blowhole mod, I haven't got any pics cause the mod hasn't been done. Was thinking about doing a standard12cm round hole and cover it up with mesh. But seeming you've already done that I'm gonna change the design that might fit the SG03 even better. I'll upload the design once it's done. ;)

Nope, does not block the first bank, even though using ram modules with heat pipe cooling. Heat pipes of the Noctua are about 1 cm away from the first bank. But keep in mind, this is on the Gigabyte board, but will probably be not different on a Core I7 board.

When I saw this pic you shot after you fitted the cooler I was getting pretty worried that I couldn't use all the banks.

Problem solved, just got the Enzotech on eBay for just $24,- incl. shipping.
Tnx for the tips anyway... I'll post the temps as soon as I got all the components and get her running, but might take quite a while.
