Imho, both ps3 and xbox360 look great. Can't wait to adopt both. :) But pc gaming is still best imho.
 
Yeah the consoles are great, and will be superceeded by PCs only 3 months later. Consoles will never be able to keep up due to the 4-6 Month PC hardware refreshes.

You can also run linux on the old XBOX, but you're still not doing anything special, and sure as hell not playing games on it.
 
Unrelated to SFF but what i'd like to know is if nvidia renewed its Dolby license. This might mean Soundstorm2 if so.

Edit: thats if nvidia is also making the mainboard, as opposed to just the graphics module (?)

I guess there are ways of finding out but i hate digging through that dry info.

HA too bad these processors are nothing but essentially celerons as they suck dick at even the simpliest tasks lacking the advanced instruction sets that make modern processors what they are, think about it, if 3.2 x 3 cores was really true people would be buying them to mod into their pcs, except really they do nothing but gaming, cool idea though.

On the contrary, the x86 instruction set is upwards of 30 years old, and you call it advanced?

People don't buy them to put them in their PCs because the two systems wouldn't understand each other. The Cell architecture is incompatible with x86 as it stands now, so why would they do that? :confused:

I thought I read somewhere that (pertaining to the Xbox360) it had been so finely tuned for a gaming console type machine that running an OS (Linux) on it is worthless.

Though someone could have just put that out there as a false thing...in an attempt to hault attempts at hacking.

I don't know....it will be interesting to see what and if people can run things on it.

quite simply, yeah, it will run linux, as just about anything will, it's just software. Whether or not you can do anything useful, well, if you could get drivers for it and all of it's specialized/one of a kind hardware, that allow it to do anything else, best of luck to you. xbox is pretty good at running games, and sucks horribly at anything else you try to get it to do- the 360 has a little more versatility built in, and alot more horsepower (we would actually call it advanced today, whereas the xbox was a steaming pile of shit when it came out, compared to what we had on the desktop- the geforce 3 was never fast at anything beyond what the geforce 2 could do...). Keep in mind guys, PPC and current X86 designs arent that different- they are both RISC in the core. PPC is about as different from P4 and K8 as they are from each other, except that it has a native RISC front end instead of an X86 translator.

I called it modern, because it is, it's todays most widely used set.
