Best solution for me

I am in the process of building my new DAW (digital audio workstation) that I use in my home studio. Of course I'm going Sandy Bridge and have all of that figured out.

Displays is what I am up in the air about. Right now I have two Acer X243w TN panels (1920 x 1200) (24 in) that is being run by a single ATI 2900 Xt HD pro.

I want to add a 27" in the middle, looking at the Asus VE276Q which does 1920 x 1080 res, and throw the old Acer's in portrait on each side.

Would you suggest going eyefinity for this or not? If I don't go eyefinity, I'm going to need two cards to run independt resolutions right? I'm trying to go the cheapest route here, as I don't game on this PC at all. Screen real estate is what I need for multiple audio vsts and track spread across.

From my understanding if I do eyefinity, everything will need to be the same res, and with these monitors having different max resolutions, I'm not sure it will be workable.

Either way, give me suggestions in routes to go, and which card/cards you would use for something like this?

Eyefinity really only refers to AMDs solution to game across multiple displays. It is also only available from the 5000 series and onwards, so your card does not have this feature.

What you are wanting is a multimonitor solution for desktop work, and is not directly related to eyefinity. What you will need is either a second card, which one you choose may be restricted depending on the OS you are using, any should be fine if you are using Win 7. Or you will need to change your card out to 5000 series or higher that has display port and get a monitor that has display port or use an active adapter to run 3 monitors off of 1 video card.

I should have been more clear, I plan on picking up a new card, but I don't really need anything flashy. Since I'm not going to be gaming, would eyefinity even be worth it for me, or should I just pick up two cards (to support 3 monitors) and be done with it.

I'm running win 7 x64 btw.

Just to clarify, Eyefinity really only refers to gaming across multiple monitors. If you are not gaming, then you need not concern yourself with eyefinity at all.

AMD cards with 5000 series or higher have the advantage of having display port, this allows the ability to drive 3 displays off one card, instead of having to use two cards. Neither is really "better" per say, but they do have certain requirements/issues that differ among them you should be aware, see this thread -

For instance take into account your, mobo what type of slot would the 2nd video card be? Some people report sluggish performance having to use a PCI video card.

Just to add, because you are using win 7 and not gaming. There is no actual restriction on the type of 2nd card, you can pair an AMD and Nvidia for instance. Likewise your earlier question about resolution, you can set each monitor to whatever you want provided the monitor and video card support it, they do not have to be the same regardless of whether you use AMDs single card method or 2 cards.
