Hi,

I'm looking about buying a new one. What are some choices that I should consider? I will spend somewhere in the $50 range for a new or used one, or a little more if its worthwhile.

I've heard alot about the sythe ninja but don't see it on the egg, and also the big typhoon, which I see there and might order, but before i do, I will post here for imput as I'm not too sure what would get me the best results.

Good god is that thing big. Will that break my mobo? Better yet, will it fit in a case? I have a standard size mid tower case and am wondering..this thing is HUGE..would probably dent my case if it ever fell off.

The Arctic Cooler isnt huge, it would fit almost any mid tower case just fine (its the motherboard capacitors and what not that you need to make sure will clear it). Its not super heavy like you think either.

Depends on ur mobo and case. Room is sufficient?

Thermalright SI 120. One of the best if not the best. Not heavy and even though it is aluminum it cools like the best of them. Choose you fan solution. I think it's so good that if it's an AMD that has no V added and you have good airflow you may not even need a fan... never tried but it might work...

if your case has enough room, either get the Tuniq Tower 120 or Thermaltake Big Typhoon. make sure you screw it tight (but not too tight). my temps never break 55C on load with the Big Typhoon.

Decided to go with the big typhoon. Found one refurbed on newegg for around $37 so we'll see if it has accessories or not.

Nice choice, im sure youll be happy with it as ive heard good things about it.

how about the new 4 pipe hsf from AMD? Its pretty damn good for how much it costs on ebay. (almost as good as xp-90 and wont void your warranty)

I would have bought that but I don't have the mobo mounting brackets anymore, so I went with the BT because I have one from a zalman hsf that many have used with it with no problems.

Excellent move. :)

Im searching for a good 939 cooler as well, but here is the dilemma. I have a Lian Li V2000a and there is MINIMUM clearance between the socket edge and the divider in the case. So the size of the heatsink can't be too much geater than the stock :(.

anyone ?

i will sell u my xp-90 with a medium speed fan for 25 shiped if ur interested.

held my opteron pretty well all teh way up to 2.95 ghz

just to make it a harder choice, Zalman 9500!

This is true. The 9500 is amazing.

The HS isn't even warm to the touch when it's working right.

well my xp-90 and zalman 7000b wasnt warm either.

I know, the XP90 is great, I wa sjust arguing the fact that the 9500 was awesome as well.

haha when doesnt the subject of "best Heatsink" make some people get their panties all tied up in a knot... ;)

Yeah I definitely shoulda looked up my Freezer 64 Pro first. Even they detect the strange variations in sounds (for the Freezer 64 Pro). B/c of that, I never run my fan above 1800RPM (which just so happens to be what they are using). This raises my temps quite a bit, not to mention I get no PWM IC/RAM cooling.

Gah...maybe I should just went SI-120 as I had originally planned, or Scythe. Bah...but I'm lazy lol.

if comparing to the AMD Stock HSF. A very Nice and Quiet HSF is the Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 I am getting cooling that = room temps now. saw a 24c earlier today .and under encoding load it hit 34c at 100%cpu for about 30 mins. not too bad for a 15 dollar hsf combo.

zalman cnps9500, since u can direct the heat flow to exit the case

Same can be done with the Scythe Ninja or AC Freezer.

I'm still ticked at how loud the Freezer is (at max RPM). I mean, we're talking classic Tt loud. Crappy socket A (pre-Thermalright) loud.

They shouldn't have even mentioned 2400RPM as an option on the box, cuz it blows. 2400RPM + >37dba does not follow the AC philosophy, yet the fins were designed as such.

GAHHHH. Why didn't I read SPCR...god, fucking damnit.

lol. Sorry dude. I'm on my own quest to quiet things down too. I hate noisy whiny shit in my box.
