Best Socket 478 HSF For Under $50?

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on a good hsf under $50 for my 3.0 GHz Northwood. Thanks

If you want it fairly quiet and cooled very well, the Zalman 7000Cu is always a safe bet, I own one in all of my machines except my main currently using the new larger 7700Cu.

I would go with that Zalman but it's a pretty heavy heatsink and not only heavy but pretty big I would be pissed if it came off some how and broke something.

I honestly would not worry about that unless you move your computer around alot, and even still, there is also the 7000AlCu which is alot lighter and has almost as good of cooling as the Cu version. On all of my machines "six" I cannot see any sort of flex or any strain on the motherboard or HSF retention brackets. But I definately would not lay my computer left side down with the 7700, however the 7000 I would feel comfortable if I did it carefully.

However if size is an issue and your case is pretty cramped, then you might want to ask around to see if anyone else has had any troubles installing it into your particular case.

If you are worried about the weight of the Zalman, just get the 7000 AlCu variant that is mostly aluminum. Apparently they cool almost as well as the pure copper version and weigh ALOT less.

XP-120 is huge, but hard to argue with as a monster cooler, XP-90 is nice (I've got one).
