Is this the best SFF that is available: Shuttle SD39P2 ?

I always wanted to get one of these little fellas, even thought there is a hell of a premium price $400 :eek:

Anyway this looks like the newest stuff DDR800, core 2 duo, pci-e 16x and all the trimmings. Does anyone have this? Is it the best thing going in SFF?

 
no, read up, you are gonna want to get an SFF case and and micro atx board, it is pretty much just like building a atx desktop.
 
I was looking at microATX boards, since sarver recommended it. They all seem to have weird issues they are all 965 chipset and have audio, SATA RAID (not really important to me), RAM or overclocking problems. Are there better boards out that I don't see?
 
Can you show me an example of the audio problems?

You're gonna have 2 PCI slots to throw a SB Audigy or soemthing into if you REALLY need to.

Granted MicroATX boards dont have the overclocking power of high end Enthusiast boards, they ares till very good stable boards at stock speeds. There just isn't the market for high end MicroATX boards but the market is growing.
I find it funny when people complain that MBs dont perform when there seting are out of spec, there not designed to run out of spec, there designed to run with in spec. i cant believe it when I see comments like, My MB is defective, I cant get it to run at speeds twice that for which it was designed, do these same people complain when there honda Civic breaks down after they bolt on a 200HP shot of NOS?

Its no wonder the manufacturers are dropping there Warrenty terms the way they are, people returning there MBs because they wont run out of spec. sorry, End rant.

Why do companies then advertise overclocking capabilities? So we can just run them at stock? Why make motherboards that can raise voltages/FSB at all? So we can just...leave them "in spec"? Why the hell would we buy $200+ motherboards riddled with heatpipes and loud 40mm fans...so we can leave them...at factory settings?

Its one thing to buy a processor and say something is wrong with it why doesn't it overclock...

Its another to complain when the motherboard you bought, which was designed to overclock, doesn't overclock and is filled with cold boot issues/failed components.
 
I like the q pack, I will have to check out the microfly. I was also looking at that matx board today. 140+ at the egg, but reviews look very promising.
 
The qxpack2 looks a little better and has a better PS for basically the same price.

First off you will never see a MB that says it can do anything other than stock speads. Only that it can. Overclocking depends on just about every other component to have a successful overclock. They will not honor a warrenty if you go and tell them its defective cause it cant do a 5% overclock. just like your Mustangs warrenty is void if you enter it into a race.

Back on subject.
I had a X-Qpack when it first came out, theres was alot of talk about it and I believe it put some bite back into SFF. I have not seen or heard about the X-Qpack 2 I am gonna have to check it out. as it would not have to take much redisign to make the old version near perfect.

Problem with Shuttles is your buying a Bare bones system, and the only way to upgrade it is to buy the next best Barebones shuttle. They are really good however, alot of design went into making them really small and yet very functional, this is what your paying for, there propietory components that are specially designed to work in such a small space.
The good thing is you know that what your getting is disigned to work together. You are getting what you pay for, it just aint cheap, but its worth it.

Did some searching and all I can find for the X-Qpack 2 is the APEVIA X-QPACK2. Only differance with it is the front panel has ben cosmeticly been updated. no differances to the actuall chassis.
 
The qxpack2 looks a little better and has a better PS for basically the same price.

Trust me on this one... .The Aspire/Apevia does NOT have a better PSU.

As far as looks; aesthetics are subjective but you can get the MicroFly with three different bezels (the original w/ the handle, the SX6 and the MX6) and you can get the original with and without the PSU.
 
Thanks for the info [H] PSU inquisitor. Are these all standard power supplies? or are they smaller? If they are standard I would rather get it without the PS.
 
The MicroFly is a standard ATX power supply.

The old X-QPack was really short, so they had a short ATX PSU made to go with the case. You could swap that PSU out for a standard ATX one, but then you make things really tight between the PSU and the back of your optical drive.

When they "updated" the case to the X-Qpack2, I believe they made the case deeper so a standard size PSU could be put in there, but I haven't tried it myself so don't quote me on that. ;-)
 
I, too, heard they made the XPack2 a bit deeper for standard sized ATX PSU's.

Someone needs to find a review comparing the 2 side by side.

I've got a Shuttle SD32G2B myself. 1 PCI-Ex 16x and 1 PCI; specs are in sig.

It's 945GM chipset vs the 975 of the SD39P2 which means limited to 667 memory compared to 800+ and no SLI/Crossfire but I wouldn't need either of those anyway.

If you're gaming, get a real MicroATX case/mobo; not a Shuttle, Shuttle's are nice sure, but there are heavy space constraints that MicroATX cases wouldn't have. The SLI Shuttle's only have 1 slot per card, so you'd have to stick with single slot cards like the 7800/7900's; 8600/8500's and some of the X1900's/X1950's

In a MicroATX case at least you could go with an 8800GTS (dual slot) and in the long run; SLI in another one.
 
Do you think the zalman 7700 cpu heatink would fit in there? The height looks good, but maybe not the width.

Not into the dark side, but I'm currently at looking to put an abit NF-M2 nView into a MX6 MicroFly (comes with the XVS Modular 600W ATX Power Supply BTW). The only reason I haven't jumped on the 7700 is the fact it may interfere with the DIMM slots on this mobo. However it is about as tall as one would want to go in this case and still be able to use the mobo tray! :( :rolleyes:
 
Its a toss up. Micro fly and qpack. Same size same featres. About the same price. Microfly has a better ps or you can get it for a few bux less without the ps. I am still not sure which one. According to dworley's pics looks like the microfly can support a taller heatsink.
 
I love these stupid reviews:

Weaknesses: Small for high profile CPU or video card coolers, only fits micro ATX motherboards.

It only fits microatx, really. :rolleyes:

Just don't make the same mistake I did on DreamCatcher a CNPS9500 CU LED will fit, but if you want to remove the mobo tray intact... for get it!! You have "roughly" 3 - 1/4" from mobo to the top of the chassis cut out. That is basicly the bottom of the support rod you see in the side view. That's why I went with the Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu (wish it worked with AM2!)

What you see in Dreamcatcher is the 7000 for the 939 and height wise it is great!! However the it uses a 92mm fan where as the 7700 uses a 120. That is what

The NB cooler you've selected is the all copper version of the one that lost out in DreamCatcher because of the pci-e card I ended up using. Not familiar with Intel boards but one of those would be somewhat of "overkill" on most amd units. They are great; the only thing to watch out for is some NB chips have gotten smaller (as on my biostars).
 
the Zalman 7000 coolers fit really well in the X-Qpack cases and they cool really well. I dont see why anyone would need better cooling. The 7700 probably wont fit at all. The 9500 does fit but if you look at the pic above you will see he had to cut and mod the side support and like the poster says you cant use the slide out MB tray. Do yourself a favor and get the 7000. I ran mine at full speed without the Fanmate and it was very quiet and cooled really well.

I am really regretting getting rid of my X-Qpack. I have been wanting to do a HTPC now that I have a HDTV. I was looking at Amazon.com and they have the MX6 microfly w/ the 600watt PSU for $99 (comes from Tiger Direct). However was wondering if the new version of the X-Qpacks 500w PSU was actually useable unlike the first versions that had really bad problems. As I do like the new looks of the X-Qpack 2 and would rather get it, but if I have to just throw away the PSU like i did the old one, then I might as well get one with a working PSU and spend a little more and forgo asthetics.
 
I plan on obtaining an X-Qpack 2 and doing a side-by-side including PSU reviews between it and the MicroFly.
 
The 2 looks ok. I like the ventilation arund the HD area. But the fan hitting memory n the Microfly is also a + as well.

I could of found everything out in that second review just by reading the Spec sheet. That is not a review, not sure what it is but I know what it Isn't!

There was no substance to these reviews. Is the temp indicator at all acurate? Does a long video card fit in there? Will a heatsink (not that dinky crap you put in there) fit ? Does the PS power the newest hardware?

This is certainly a Larry King interview, not the hard hitting John Stewart. :p
