I was looking around on newegg for a router but there are so many differnet things out there with different features I wasn't sure what the best one was. I will be gaming 90% of the time so I'd like a router that can handle long gaming sessions. Also, no wirless! I had to use wireless the entire time I lived at home and hated every minute of it. It was either slow as hell or always disconnecting. I just never said anything because it was free...Anywho, I will probably never use wirless again so I dont even want the router to have wireless becuase I dont want freeloaders running off my connection. I know you can turn it off, but I'd rather not go through that hassel. I was looking at linksys because I heard those were the best. The router that I had at home was a Dlink. I wish I knew what I was looking for or I wouldnt have to ask here. So any suggestions would be awsome. Thanks!

If you have a spare computer sitting around doing nothing build your own.

This is what i am using at home, and I love it. Lots of nice features, and tons of homebrew stuff for it.

Before anyone starts flaming, I know there are others out the but this is the one I use and have had experiece with.

Gaming 90% of the time? Much downloading? What kind of reliability do you need? What kind of Internet connection?

Mostly gaming like I said. I do download a lot of random stuff like demos and patches and what not. I need 100% reliability, least amount of downtime and mishaps as possable. I will be getting a 10 meg download 384kbs upload speed. So anything that can do those speeds. And of course thats cable internet. Thanks

Snag a Linksys RV0 series....RV082 is the middle model in that range. Can snag one on eBay cheap I bet. They fly..rock solid. A good business grade router that has high horsepower (533MHz, 32 megs of RAM) for a pretty darned good price. They run the mid-to upper 200's pricewise....tis why I mentioned eBay for a used one if you're on a budget.

My favorite "under 100 dollar" home grade router...the Linksys BEFSX41 model. NOT the befsR series...but befsX. Big difference. However..they had a few flakey firmware versions out there...either run it on the old trusty 1.45.7 firmware, or the fairly brand new 1.52.9

How was that rule of thumb again?
"When going above 99.9% reliability, every nine increases the cost more than tenfold"?
