They're remodeling at work and as I went to my car to go home I noticed a few comps in the dumpster. Pulled them out and gave em a once over. They're both a P4 (I think @2.6, not positive, haven't had a chance to run them yet). One has 256mb PC333 ram and the other has 1gb of DDR400, fairly small hard drives (10gb and 20gb).

What's my best route to have these fold or would it even be worth the effort :p

Notfreds diskless client would work well in those boxen. I currently have several boxen with similar specs and they meet deadlines just fine.

No HD's required, no OS... just the .iso image burned to a disc and your good to go. No setup required.

If you have any questions regarding it, let us know and we'll be happy to help!!

Oh....and nice score, can't beat free:)

Awesome, thank you for that. Both computers are working perfectly. I just need to grab a kvm switch and another lan cable and these will be folding 24/7 :)

Is it normal for it to sit there and say "Setting up instance 1"?

I'm sorry I'm a noob, this is a learning experience after using the graphical client for so long.

Notfreds disk does not put info on the screen.

It is meant to run headless and diskless (no monitor and HDD)

Use FAHMon to link up to the client and view it.

Also if you type the ip address that is on the screen into your web browser (since you do have a monitor hooked up) it will give you a webpage that you can pull the log from.

Fold on!

I have used notfred's diskless program, and I have to say it rocks!

FAHMon is great for keeping track of them!

I have 1 windoze pc that monitors all my diskless ;)

Yeah...sorry, I should have mentioned the headless part:)

I've got my diskless boxen stuffed under my desk, once things are set up, you can basically forget about them.....they just do their thing with almost no maintenance required. One piece of advice though.... grab a couple 2g flash drives and plug them into the boxen. That way, if they do get shut off for some reason, you won't loose any work.

Hope it works as well for you as it has for me!
