hey, I was just wondering whats the best brand to get round 3 connector 18" IDE cables from. I have 2 coolermaster right now which work fantastically (is that a word?) but I only have the 2 connector one for my HDD and thier 3 connector has some stupid ground lead on it.

The other cable I was looking at was a Vantec cable from newegg. But I want to know what you think! Thanks.

generic ones are the same.

it's all the same to me.

I have glow in the dark ones I got off ebay for cheap.

ookay, sounds good to me! I think I'll still go with the branded kind (Vantec) for some stuff I just dont think that generic is the way to go. (very few things IMO are but ya know, could just be me)

yea, the pull tabs are great. I was also wondering if that whole EMI shielding thing was actually worth it, since I read somewhere that with the higher and higher IDE speeds it can begin to be a problem, although I have never personally had any problems with data being corrupted by the cable. Like I said, my coolermaster are fantastic.

don't mean to hijack your thread but i've had some problems with the pull tabs. i've pulled on them on occasion and they broke the back of the connector.

am i pulling too hard or were they just crappy cables (they the cheapest rounded cables with pulls that newegg has)

actually, the cheapest one's aren't the best

the issue with round cables is that they can cause interference within the cable...

check on the cool cases forum, they discusses it more often over there.

personally, i use the vantec rounded one's

Wire is wire. It's not like the cheaper ones use an inferior grade of wire. They still have to meet specifications. If a cheap cable is succeptible to interference than so will be an expensive one. The interference from a rounded cable will come from crosstalk from the wires being so close together, so shielding the entire cable will not help. Remember, rounded cables are out of the IDE specification. Cheap cables are perfectly okay, unless you just like spending money, in which case I have some really high quality rounded cables to sell you.

the difference between cheap and expensive ones is probably $3 total, just get the good ones with shielding just in case
