Trying to get some good airflow in my case but read that some round cables can corrupt data and cause other probs. What are the best quality round cables out there? thanks
 
Antec Corbra cables and the Cooler Master cables are about the best. But very expensive to buy very many of. Alot of us use those SVC rounded cables which are good quality and people havn't had a problem with them. They are only $2.50 each and come in like 10 different colors. You can find them at www.svc.com.

Back in my day we took an exacto knife, cut the ribbon cables one by one and then tapped them together with electrical tape.

Those kick the fancy ones in the arse any day. :p

is there truly a perfomance difference btwn cut ribbon cables and the antec cobra and coolmaster round cables?

I dont think cut and twisted ribbon cables are going to be able to perform quite as well as regular rounded cables. They weren't meant to be cut and twisted up in a circle like that. I'm sure they work but as far as how good i would have to guess it not to be as good with data transfers as regular rounded cables. Maybe someone could do some benches lol?
 
I personally use antec and coolermaster cables and they work quite well for me.

but the ones that Ice pointed out are definitly the best. Don't know about where to get em or how exactly you ground em.
 
why would you ever want to cut your cables in that way??

that's just asking for data corruption

gladiators are looking to be the best cables out there, and any grounded and shielded cable like that should perform as well
 
Please correct me (and I am sure someone would!) but the difference between an ATA33 cable and ATA66 (and above) is that the additional (40 vs 80) wires are all ground in order to minimize noise.

If you to cut them, would it not cause an issue with noise?

I would like to see a test between a home-made rounded cable and a std ribbon cable.

Does it REALLY make a "real world" difference?

I do know that my BIOS gives me shit on boot-up if I ever hook up an ATA66 (or above) device with a 40 wire cable. :)

the trick with round cables is the way the extra 40 ground wires are placed in regards to the data wires, you can see the proper way in the illustration for the RD3 Gladiator the previous interation of the RD3XP

and as you may have guessed all the ground wires and sheilding should share a common ground, so the cables ground to the mobo ground, which is grounded by the PSU (in a mobos PCB layers, the thicker inner circuit tend to be the ground from what I understand, just an informational tidbit)

the other thing you should be aware of is that for the best signal the shorter the cable the better, and if its a single device even better

I actually find that flat cables are easier to stow, and are generally made better anyway. :p
 
Why do they only come in 20 inches, MY GOD ....my drive is 6 inches from the board , The round cables I have now are too long also.
I wish someone would make some short one, I hate having them all looped up in my case:(


EDIT: I see the 8 inch one now, but its only single device :)
maybe i will run my drives on diferent channels, that would help from having to have that giant cable in there :(
