Best Rendered Water

in the first jedi knight game by lucasarts you could do it as well but it was perhaps after mario 64??

the water looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good !1! ;)

i think you´ve won!!

Xbox.... hmm.. i hope to see a pc version of that game !!!

Ummm...did you miss the 'Silent Hunter 4' water on the first page? This stuff doesn't seem to compare...?

Agreed. I think even Bioshock's water is better than that.

Bioshock does have some beautiful water. I'm still going with Farcry on this one.

You know, now that I think of it, FEAR had some pretty good looking water, even though it didn't show up a lot.

Bioshocks water looks nice, but have you noticed when you walk in it, the action of the character doesnt do anything to the water?????
Also there is no character reflection in the water either.
When you melt ice it retracts????instead of flowing water toward you.
The ripple effects are nice, the ability to see down to the undersurface is well done.

HL2 has good water effect.
FEAR has reflection in the water.

Did you play DX10? I know that DX10 gives a small splash and a water trail. The character is only two arms so there is nothing to reflect. :)

I wonder if the stupid no torso and legs thing is just because of this. The water would look crap if you went through it. In DX 10 you do get ripples and such as you go through the water more then just the subdued effect available in DX 9 though. But still it´s not that real you can´t jump in the water and make splashes.

indeed, the water in Silent Hunter 4 is very good, but i don't think is this good

that's VERY [H]ard to beat !

One thing that kills most water rendering techniques is the lack of splash, spray, or disruptions along the edge. Those shots in the hallway are a perfect example. Water flowing through a space like that would have splashes shooting up where it hit the wall.

well it just might, there are several other pics in the Hydrophobia website that show some splashes, bubbles and other stuff. Go check em out

you don't need super computers for raytracing but damn is it taking them along time to give it hardware support

that water in Q3 looks good, too bad it has the same engine limitations, just looking at the edges reminds me of HL1 water, then i look at the relections/refractions and ripples and forget about life.

I didn't like the water in Oblivion that much. Looked like oil.

No one has said Far Cry Instincts Predator. The water reallllyyy impressed me, with the way how it perfectly reflected light and sparkled on the surface.

Old school here-
Does anyone remember Outcast?
I thought the water was done really well in that game.
