I have quite a lot of free time at work, and would like to be able to log into my home computer remotely to work on programming. I've asked the higher ups, and they've given me the "go ahead". I can use Windows RDC out, or any other solution that doesn't involve installing programs on my workstation at the NOC.

Curious if Windows RDC is the best way to go. If so, I'd appreciate any tips for setting it up securely.

If something like Teamviewer works well, I'd be interested in working with that. Full version is pricey, but there seems to be a free consumer version out there.

I personally like using Windows Live Mesh. Not only does it allow you to backup folders of your choice to Microsoft Servers for free and keep them synchronized between as many devices as you want, but it includes a remote desktop connection to any computer you have with Mesh installed.

Team Viewer.

I think it's fantastic and it works through firewalls.

Logmein. I have it set up at 5 companies that I contract for. Saves me a two hour trip sometimes. :)

Rdp is easily the best but youll.have to set up dyn dns if you have a dynamic address at home. You also need to be running pro at home and set up port forwarding and firewall access.

Other than that, logmein is great and team viewer is to but if you can't install it youll have to download the 3mb installer everytime, and have third access code handy/memorized

Windows RDC can be used if both the computers are on same network. As your work and home computers are on different networks, you can use remote support tools such as gosupportnow in order to remotely access your home computer from anywhere. It is very easy to use and costs only $19.95 / month.

RDP all the way. I've never seen a reason to use something else. Nothing ever seems to match the speed and quality I get with RDP on any internet connection.
