Make sure to give us an update when the Dayton comes in. From what everyone says, you get some pretty decent bass outta that little sucker.

GMC: but it's fun :D I don't maximize my subs too often, as I hardly ever watch movies anyways, but it's really great when you have a crazy bassfest like the Incredibles. That movie in particular is damn impressive. I, Robot has some great stuff in it that's below 20hz, but it doesn't pack that same visceral punch that the 25-40hz material does. In fact, when watching the subterranean highway scene, I had to dig out the Rat-shack meter, as the bass really didn't seem that powerful. Sure, it was a steady vibration, but didn't hit you in the gut like other scenes did. However, turns out that I was getting about 114dB uncorrected in that scene, which ain't bad all!
 
got my dayton and its been sitting there forever, now all i need is wire, HDA sound card, banana plugs, uhgggg


tis a tad more expensive than the average PC setup...

wow thats a great price for a subwoofer cable.

anyway, whats so special about banana plugs? i just twist the wires at the end and stick them through the hole on the binding post. I would think bare wire is better since there would be less things between the wire and the speaker terminal.
 
I stripped off about an inch of insulation on each end of my speaker wire, twisted up the strands pretty tightly with some needle nose pliers, and then heated up the copper twist with a soldering iron and wicked a little solder into it to keep it together. Instant speaker wire pins!

I like to think of banana plugs as a more secure connection and more area touching for the connection. Also I like it just because of how easy it is to plug in and unplug the cables if you want to move the speakers or whatever hehe

well actually with a soldering iron, i imagine that it would actually end up being pretty convinient. I will try that someday :)

As for now, my speaker layout is only temporary, and when i move I will probably end up buying new speaker wire anyway, so I'll try your method then :)

now i REALLY need a new sub... :( and although i KNOW i wouldn't regret the ultra/2, i can't imagine what it would be like in here (and i can't imagine what it would be like to actually get UP here)...

those onix subs with r-des you are getting are the subject of MUCH discussion on the audio forums (as you know)... you'll have to post us a report once you get them...

re: bananas... they aren't "necessary", but i like them, personally... gives everything that nice "neat" finished look... (which yea, i know, adds nothing sonically, but it makes me feel good :) ).... plus it does make it easier to put stuff together if you are coming from back panel of a crowded in avr... before i had separates, that was a ROYAL pita (especially if you have 5 thumbs per hand, like me :rolleyes: )....

5 bucks for a sub cable can't be beat...
 
well i didnt know i needed them at the time :p

ebay has some good prices on banana's. like $25 for 20. I'll compare stuff then decide what to buy. Since im livin paycheck to paycheck im buyin this stuff one piece at a time :)

well you dont really need them. They're more of a luxury than anything. If cash is tight, you should either skip buying them, or but that $25 towards something more useful. BTW echo, did you get a receiver yet? You should probably make it a priority to buy one, otherwise you'll have a bunch of audio gear laying around which you have no use for.

Too late =[

Last time I checked the AV123 forums I saw that some parts for the 12's wouldn't be coming in til mid-june, which is too bad. I'm not that torn up because I've still got my subs, but I can understand how people that have been waiting could be upset. I pre-ordered in the beginning of December, but evidently the first people on the list ordered around March '04!

You've got it and you didn't plan ahead to make sure you were ready for the new baby? bah =]

That's why I order all the other associated cabling beforehand, nothing is worse than having a new toy that you have to leave in the box doing nothing!

I guess I shouldn't be talking, I DO have a 950$ center channel sitting in the corner of my room, as I have no way to possibly hook up a rear center right now =]

ccotenj: I'll make sure to post some impressions and pics when I get the pair. Also, I had to carry my SVS up stairs too.. that was fun =] If you get the Ultra/2, that one weighs 50 pounds more than Plus/2, which already tips the scales at 140, so I can imagine the joy that will be to deal with!
 
Bumpage because I have the velodynes on clearance and the Dayton sub... what amp did we go with? How's it going? Help!!

I'm a total Audo noob. I can solder though.... what connectors do I really need other then 3 headphone to RCA type jacks? Yes I should have ordered them with the sub. Guess RR/Circuit City will have to do.

Bah, mostly spinning over receiver choices. Hmm... TSX-R601 maybe. Hoping maybe the OP too had a "first timer" experience he could share too. :p
