First of all, hi everybody!. My first post here...

This is my system:

P4 2.53GHz FSB 533
512 MB RAMBUS
GeForce4 Ti 4200

I built the box when rambus still looked like the best bet for the future, but that obviously didn't come true :)

RIMM prices are quite high now, upgrading the CPU isn't much use because of the old board. This is also my work box and for work and some games totally sufficient. For these reasons together this means that this box will stay the same for another year or longer before I'll buy a new system.

I am however willing to upgrade the video card, but am not sure to what. As for the money side, I'm willing to go up the a X800 Pro, but I guess it isn't worth it because of the 533 FSB.

What's the best/fastest card for this system that would still make sense? Thanks!

Um I don't understand why you think Front Side Bus has anything to do with your graphics card!

Seems like your board has a AGP slot, check to see if it is an 8X or 4X AGP slot and use that to choose your card. The X800's will work on a 4X but they won't work as fast with your system if you had an 8X.

EDIT

Here is the defintion of FSB for you:

"the data path between the RAM and the CPU."

Basically how fast your RAM and CPU communicate.

Opps, forgot the AGP speed. It's 4x.

As far as FSB, I may have been wrong. Thanks for your suggestions.

no worries, no video card will be severely (if at all) limited by the AGP 4X spec, pick up a GeForce 6800 and you're all set to go!

i would recommend a 6600 GT Agp if price is a concern.. these cost about 200.

if price is no concern get an geforce 6800

best buy has a deal on where you can pick up a bgf 6800 overclocked w/ heat pipes on it AND half life 2... AND it comes w/ farcry for 247 after a 10% automatic discount and a 105 mail in rebate.

i think it end on the 5th though...so you better hurry. i bought mine today.. going to install it after i get out of night class.

sweet deal though.
you have to buy hl2 ot get that 10% off. which comes out to 30 bucks. which isnt bad if your going ot buy hl2 anyway.
