Looking for the best RAM in my budget to unlock the dual channel of the NF7-S mboard by Abit. I'd want two sticks of 256 for 512 RAM (I really don't need anymore than half a gig :p) DDR400 (PC 3200)

Everyone says Corsair or Kingston, but I'm not sure why, so I want your opinion.

Lets say my budget is 150 for RAM.

Go! ;)

Also, rather than just getting a 2x kit, can't I just get 2 sticks of the same RAM?

Yes do that, it will run better. I have to say Kingston, they do make superior RAM, but i've heard good things of Mushkin RAM.

Edit: BTW what a great name. Lofapoo. :p . "Simple things please simple minds" LOL love it.

If your budget is $150 i would get one stick of 512MB Mushkin PC3200 or PC3500 lvl 1. Mushkin makes the best memory and it will run low timings of 2-3-2-5.

PC3500 would be a waste since my board doesn't support it.

I can spend 150, but I'd honestly perfer to spent about 100.

First off your board will support PC4400 lol. Its only rated for those lower speeds because thats what most people buy but it will run any speed of DDR.

Second you get what you pay for with memory. The system memory and the PSU are the two most important pieces of hardware in the system, even more important then the quality of the CPU, Motherboard, Video Card and whatever else.

Mushkin, Corsair, and Kingston are the best choices for memory. Value RAM from one of these three will work fine but wont overclock as well or run as aggressive of timings.

Mushkin PC3200 2x256MB lvl 1 pack $121

I was looking at the Mushkin lvl 1 pack aswell.

As for the support thing, I'm a cheese for a reason :p

If you only have 150 for ram, you won't have enough money for quality pc3500...

I am running three sticks of Corsair XMS 3200, and everything works beautifully here at 11x200, 2-3-3-6 (the "correct" timings for this memory.)
