Hi,

So I'm in a bit of a pickle with how to setup my hard randomly sized hard drives on my file server.

Here's what I have:
2x 80gb SATA
1x 200gb SATA
1x 160gb 7,200/8mb IDE
1x 300gb 7,200/8mb IDE

All on an athlon xp2800+/1gb ram machine running FC4.

The suckiness comes where I have a mix of IDE and SATA. Can I setup raid5 (without spending a billion dollars) with both IDE and SATA, or would they have to be seperate?

Basically, I want my data to be secure. What would you guys recommend I do?

edit: Just thought of this. Maybe this is a good situation for software raid?
 
To set up a RAID5 you would need identically sized drives. If you raid different size drives, you only use the capacity of the smallest drive in the array from each drive.
