Hi All,

Im setting up an offsite backup NAS (Ill call this NAS NEW) to backup a NAS (NAS OLD) which is local backup of user files for the office.

NAS OLD is running a bunch of drives in RAID1 to minimize the effects of drive failure:
3 Volumes
1 set 12TB in RAID 1
2 sets of 8TB in RAID 1

Im currently picking out drives for NAS NEW and my current train of thought is that I dont need RAID 1 for it. I was thinking of using either RAID5 or RAID6 instead of RAID1 so to save on HDD costs. Or another question is if RAID is even needed for an offsite backup (JBOD hehe)?

These NASs are/will be all synology's for ease of use and I will have easy access to NAS NEW since it will probably be based at my place.

Thanks

For anyone remotely interested, I'm picking up 5 8TB drives for RAID 6 or Synology Hybrid RAID w/ 2 disk redundancy.
