Hey everyone,

Have to replace my 350W Antec TruePower because... well.. just not enough power. I have 4 HDDs, 2CD-ROMs, 5 USB powered devices, AGP video, PCI sound, SCSI card, 6 80mm fans, etc.

When I start up my PC, you can actually HEAR the PSU straining to power all of these devices, and I've started running into data corruption.

My question: I need at LEAST a 500 watt PSU. For less than, say, 150 US dollars, what is the best that I can get?

I'm suprised even someone such as you ran out of power. An 350w Antec True is like having almost a 500w of many brands. There is Antec 480w True's on the egg for under $100, there is also even larger ones then that. Enermax also makes some excellent ones.

^^Get the Antec True 480 if the 350 isn't enough. You are going to hate your self for switching. I was always using cheap power supplies until one fried my Motherboard (or vice versa).

Now I run an Antec True 430. Awsome power supply.

Cheers,

has anyone has any experience with the coolergiant brand that is built by Enermax, im just wondering since no one ever seems to mention them?

There was a recent thread on this over at OcUK. its between the PC Power and the Tagan 480 but I definately think the Tagan takes it because of price, silence and excellent rails. The PC power is, well, more powerful but its like 34-44 DbA. I know the Tagan is only 480 but it will meet your needs and its BTX compatible.

well, my "Silencer 400" is not any louder than my mini-fridge here in the dorm room, or the cisco 7505, or the freebsd router, or anythign else in the room. The Pc Power and Cooling also has a mtbf (mean time before falure) that is 2x what the other manufacutrers are offering.

If you'd read the thread before quoting me you'd see where I had linked to - PCPower & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510W Deluxe

Although that PSU does seem priced a little highly. my bad.

cough
