Best Processor For 3D Work?

What would be the best Processor for 3D design? I was thinking maybe an AMD64? Suggestions for a processor under $250 would be appreciated. Thanks
 
If you read back in some reviews on Anandtech, he has some info on how Intel is a shade ahead in 3D rendering and such, but for under $250, there's no real leader.
 
for 250$ or less, a Athlon64 is a better choice. Intel would win if price doesn't matter tho.
