Currently I have an HP 712c printer. It's a pretty good basic printer but not up to par for real good photo printing. It needs ink but I feel that I'd rather buy a new printer instead of spend $75 on ink. I won't buy an All-in-1 printer. What printer is best for photos and under $200 ?

I hear the Canon Pixma 4000 is a pretty good one. This is all heresay though, I don't print my in-house (prints from Kodak are cheaper since I don't want to buy a photo printer/paper). :D

i have always stuck with Epson, their print quality side by side with HP's look so much better

my Epson r300 prints AWSOME photos and i have a canon digital rebel 6mb digital SLR camera and it makes the prints life like!

I recently got the HP psc 2610 (all in one), and put photo ink(ink designed for photos) in the printer, and got stunning results....Bets my epson, and my other hp photosmart 1200....

the HP 8xxx series with Vivera inks is great. However, if you can get together a little bit extra (and have a fairly decent camera), look into the Epson Stylus 1280 printer (prints super B- 13x19", or up to 13x44" panoramas)

The Epson Stylus 1280 looks like a very decent printer. I just might have to get one after I get done painting my truck. By the way, my camera is a Canon Digital Rebel XT. ;)

i had th previous rebel, aold it, was going to get the XT but was told spend the xtra couple $$$ and get the D20

my friend got the XT and it seems to be just as great a camera as the 300D was.

I heard that the Canon i9900 prints great photos, is quick, and can handle 13" wide paper...

I was wanting to go to that one eventually...

Any of the Canon Pixma printers (iP3000 and up) will give you excellent print quality. They are the best bang for the buck, IMO. The iP3000 used to be $40 after mail in rebate on newegg.

I recently got rid of my Epson Stylus Photo R320 for a Canon iP5000 because the cost of replacing all of the Epson inks wasn't worth it. The Canon prints look better, IMO and the cost of replacing the inks is less than half of what it costed to replace the Epsons.

If you are looking for a printer that can do 13x19 prints then I recommend i9900 and Epson R1800. If you really want to go all out then the Epson R2400 is the best 13x19 printer but costs ~$800.

I own a Canon i9900 and it is nothing short of amazing. When you are using the right paper and techniques, you have to really look hard to tell that it is not from a lab. The fight to color match your workflow leaves much to be desired from inkjet printing, but once you get it down, you don't look back. The ability to print at 13x19 allows you so many more opportunities for your hobby that it is irreplaceable. I think that canon really strives with the technology, but sometimes leaves basic features to be desired. It would be nice if I were able to print onto a disc surface, or use roll paper, or have the longevity of different types of ink. The first expanded gamut printer with separate inks for B+W that does all of the above will blow the market away.
