I've already had a topic in this section about building a new computer for college, and so far I have everything I need lined up and ready to order. There's just one thing I can't decide on.

At first I was looking at a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor, but then everyone kept saying that I should upgrade to the Athlon 64 3200. Since it's a much bigger price jump from the Pentium 4, I went ahead and looked at a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor, and it ended up being pretty much the same price as the Athlon 64. I've now decided that i'll either end up getting a Pentium 4 3.2 or an Athlon 64 3200.

So really the main thing that I was wondering is which one would be the better buy? I honestly don't quite understand the differences between the two processors or know why which one is currently better than the other. And just to let you know, money isn't a factor in this question. I just want to know which one will run better on my new system. And I also have motherboards set up for both processors as well, so that's not really a big problem either.

Thanx in advance for any help, and I hope I don't seem like too big of a noob.
 
I can't givey ou much specifics.. but as far as i know. i've heard that A64 is better for gaming where as Intel is better for everything else.... some junk like that.. that's what i've heard.. i run an AMD XP.. it work fine... i don't know.. lol hopefully someone can help you out..
 
I'd get the AMD64 for the money.... or you can go like me and just get the 2.8 and overclock to 3.2 speeds.
