Best point-and-shoot camera?

I had a $300 Canon camera (SD870 IS) but my friend scratched the lens (or whatever is the outer most layer) I read it costs more to fix it than just buy a new one...that sucks

The main feature I'm looking for in a camera is QUALITY crisp detailed shots without flash because I'll be using it to take shots of my artwork (drawings)

I know SLR is the way to go for that but my budget is still point-and-shoot.

I hear Canon and Nikon have the best lenses

Thanks!

(fast flash recycle time would be nice too) ;)

Out of all that I tried I chose the Canon 870IS because of the 28mm. The Canon G9 was my main choice, but my wife liked the wide angle. The 870 compliments my 5D....

Go Canon, Nikon's P&S mostly suck (even though I like their SLRs).

I had tons of them fail in the family, family members switched to Canon, have not had one issue!

Ok, Canon it is. I don't want to buy the same camera again though. Something cheaper but just as good would be better ;)

Fuji S100FS hands down. But expensive.

With CA that bad, I'd say hands down the last camera you'd want to buy if you're documenting art. Not to mention it's more than 2x what the OP wants to buy. And for that much money, you get a real camera.

SD750IS? That is what we have and its awesome.

Very similar to the SD870 in IQ (my aunt has the 870 )
