i have a radion 9800 in my computer, and im a poor college student so i cant afford a new card, eventually i will get a new one but right now i want to know what are the best possible drivers i can use to increase proformance in games like Portal and Half-life. I am aware of the existance of tweaked drivers but i dont trust them entirely, so what would be best? sticking with regular ATI drivers or to try tweaked drivers?

In all honesty, the "tweaked" drivers from either NGO or Omegadrivers are very good. I have been using them for all my ATI products for quite a number of years. I have used them on a 8500LE, 9600XT x800PRO and current x1900XT.
So if you want, try them out. They don't hurt your system any.
