It's rather hard to do a search for PCI cards because all the PCIe threads come up. I need a PCI card for a system I'm working on and was wondering what the best one available is. I'm thinking it's the 9250, but if someone knows of a better one, please let me know. Thank you.

I woudln't bother looking the "the best". It seems like to me that if your running PCI your intend for this computer is not gaming and that any videocard will work for you to get by in the windows environment. ATI typically has a reputation for the best image quality so I'd look for a cheap as shit 7000-7500 with probably at leaset 64MB ram. Though 32MB or even 16MB would probably be fine as well, its what alot of laptops even modern ones such as from IBM come with.

Depends, I hope u dont intend to use the card for gaming! If u want a triple monitor setup then try and make the card the same manufacturer as ur main vga card. Another card to consider is the fx5200.

The card is for a Dell computer without an AGP slot. And it will be used for gaming. I had a 9250 in it before and was able to play SWG just fine. It's not my computer, but someone else's that I use when I stay at their house every once in awhile. I just had some surgery and so I will be here for awhile. Really wanted to do a little gaming... It's tough being away from your own computer and games for so long :(

I prefer my apples red actually much sweeter although green is nicer this time of year!

The card that chris showed will do u fine, although, can I ask which games u will be playin??

I might look into that 5500, thanks for the recommendation.

Right now, I'm about halfway through Quake IV and would like to finish that up as I don't have anything else to do. Was planning on having one of my roommates from back home email me my saved game files. Other than that, possibly CoD2. I know they wont look that great, but at least it will be entertainment...

ati 9100 pro is the BEST PCI card there is. They are rare now but last time I looked, there was one retailer with them in stock.

i have a powercolor 9250 and it plays games pretty decently, its pci too

Heh, I have one in my grandmother's computer. =)

Oh, and a Dell w/o an AGP/PCI-e slot = 2xxx series. Which, may I remind you, should never be used in reference to gaming. But, whatever floats your boat I guess.

Best PCi card is the 5500 PCI unless there really is a FX 5700 PCI then I'd assume that is better. I'm sorry but nvidia has best performance in the low end. That's almost an industry accepted fact.

Thats why I recommended the 5500. There is a 5700LE, but the LE means its got disabled pipes which means its like the same thing as the 5500.

Dang I think we have a new PCI king. Not sure how much that 33 mhz bottleneck will hurt the performance but nonetheless a great day for people who only can use pci for their systems. I never thought I'd see SM 3.0 and HDR possible on PCI :D

DAMN!!! I JUST RECOMMENDED A 5500 LAST WEEK TO SOMEONE!!!

He just installed it like Wednesday.... maybe I should tell him to return it.

And it was like $85.... he coulda got this 6200! Oh well.

makes me kinda mad that nvidia will release a pci 6 series card but no agp 7 series card. I mean sheesh.

not so much the bandwidth limitation as it is the lack of GART, which is why "AGP express" sucked so hard

The 5500 is a 128bit 270/200 while the 6200 is a 64bit 350/200. So I don't know what will be best so take your pick.

I'm assuming the 6200 has newer/better architecture, unless they just stuck a pre-NV40 in there and gave it a 6xxx name.

Props to nVidia on that though for still showing some support for older formats.

the 6200 will beat the shit out of the 5500, rape it, and then leave it in a dark alley to die.
