I like Corsair

...of course I work there.

That question is a lot like asking 'what nation produces women who are the most successful at performing fellatio'.

It ain't about who makes it, it's about the specific group of chips you've got in your hand and how they work with your system. You'll have to search for the best match, and it ain't gonna be easy.

This website is dedicated to that search.

Well, I'm hearing some pretty impressive stories about the G.Skill EXTREME HZ kit. A lot of people have been able to get passed 290 with this 2x1gb kit. I'm going to be picking one of these up soon as well.

hahahaha, interesting :p

but yeah, the chips play a huge role.. how they're binned is even more important.
for ddr...
in 1gb sticks, micron 5b D takes the cake for high mhz. infineon CE for tight timings at lower mhz
512mb sticks, winbond bh-5 for tight timings/moderate mhz, samsung tccd or micron 5b G for looser timings and higher mhz

ddr2, micron is kinda owning everyone :p

i am looking at getting 2g of ram. Just want to know what is the best for OCing

well now you know, cause you have two people who have said the same thing on 1gb sticks ;)

I just recieved my 2 gigs of G Skill DDR-500 today, I have it running at 240mhz right now, my mobo doesn't seem to like having the CPU go any higher :( I am definatly loving the upgrade from my old gig of Value Select.

Don't you work for Mushkin?
yes. i've said something before about how he should have a title that represents that fact, but it hasn't happened yet :(

btw, mushkin and corsair two companies from whom i haven't tested any ram for a long time. i should try to change that soon :p

I dunno.....my Corsair XMS PC4000 sticks can't hit DDR500 (stock timings).

It isn't a huge problem right now since I use a ram divider (260 fsb 5:6 ratio)

I'm probably gonna RMA them eventually but I'd rather not be without my computer for a few weeks or however long it may take.

2x1gb kit? we gotta work this one out.

i see an asus mobo in your sig. did you try with the command rate at 2T?

Well with my fsb at 260, I can't run it 1:1 anyway.

When i set the fsb at 250 1:1 ratio it fails prime like a champ.

I've tried stock timings and 2T.

I think I just have a bad kit, I just don't wanna be without my ram for a while.

I'm gonna double check all my settings and get post back.

It only takes a couple days. You send them in and we send them back out. Keep in mind I have never seen a set of PC4000 sticks we sell that won't hit 4000, but it's possible something slipped through the screening process.

email ramguy@corsairmemory.com for RMA details and one of our tech guys will hook you up. (tech support works M-F, 8:30am-5:30pm PST)

Make sure to bump the voltage to 2.8 as well, and bump the CPU voltage a bit. (CPU voltage is important on overclocking A64 memory because the memory controller is on the CPU, not the northbridge, so it helps with overclocking the RAM, but you probably knew all that)

I was under the impression that bumping up the Dram voltage would result in a voided warranty.

I'll give those suggestions a shot.

I really do appreciate your time spent on these forums btw (above and beyond service). As you can see from my two computers in my sig, I only buy Corsair memory.

I'd recommend 2GB of GSkill's PC4000 HZ sticks. Though getting a DFI board instead of an Asus would help, I'm sure.

Corsair is typically very expensive for what you get. GSkill has awesome products at really competitive prices (and plenty of WR's are done on GSkill's RAM, just check XS.org)

LOL...I'm not sure how this helps since he has already purchased both the MOBO and the RAM.

crucial ballistixs for 1gb sticks

512 sticks: TCCD, TCC5, BH-5 and the like that likes high voltage
They're good with voltages, but the most I can get out of mine is 302
