Ok, i want to ge a 128mb 9800 pro. I also want to overclock the hell out of it with out putting a better heatsink on it or modding it in any way.

What is a good 9800 pro to buy?

The cores usually max out at about 420, the ram at 375. They are all about the same, and in reality the quality of the core's wafer determines the overclockability, not the brand.

Get whatever is cheapest, the volt mod it for some real overclocking.

umm not necessarily, i just got my 9800 pro up to 440/365, and 3d overclocker says i can go to 470/370 so im just taking it slow and breaking it in.... but they CAN and WILL go higher than 420... (mines an ATI radeon 9800 pro 128mb)

mine is @ 441/372
i am watercooled with ram sinks

bt i have heard peeps getting respectable Ocs with the Artic VGA silencer

I can do 435/375 with my VGA-S. I run it at around 420/370 though - for those inevitable times during the summer when my ambient temps will be higher...

I have a HIS ICE Excalibur 9800 Pro and it has a special fan and exhaust system that keeps alot cooler than other 9800s.

My is running at 465/365 and is as stable as a rock.
It can probably go higher but I don't want push it too hard.

I believe this manufacturer uses the cooler ARCTIC COOLING VGA Silencer. Therefore, the cooling and OC results is really amazing.

You all have special heatsinks though... I thought we were talking stock with the shim... There you are limited like me at around 420-430. As soon as I finish my waterblock, I will test out the volt mod I put on it and blow you all away :D

405/690 with ship removed and as5

i am running ati tool and its maxing out, so gg

Wow, that sucks dude. Looks you got a dud.:(

So by your standards, 15MHz lower than you is a "dud?" Please point out where he (or I) would notice 15MHz? Yeah, nowhere. Thats what I was thinking too.

lol heyheyhey sold me this card, I am happy with it, so far,

3dmarks are kinda low, higher in 01, getting a ic7 with vdimm and a 2.4c ++ soon tho

Those of you with CPU coolers on it... how the hell are those staying? Are they epoxied? I wanna do that! :D

Pwned.

He probably sold it cause it wouldnt overclock worth a crap and is now defending himself;)

You may not notice 15mhz on the core, but that is what he got with the shim removed and AS5 applied on the core instead of the goo. I have done nothing to mine and achieve 15 more mhz easy, without pushing. I'd say I have much more overhead than he does on the core, therefore allowing me to achieve a higher overclock.

Personally, I would rather have a card that clocks higher than one that clocks lower, even if it is just 15mhz.
