My max budget for a new 3D card is 200$CAD. There's a huge gap between the 5770 and the 5850 and it's sad :(

Anyway I can't afford a 5850 so I'm thinking about buying a 5770 and OC it as high as I can.
Which model would you recommend?

Edit: 1920x1200 res

well first off what resolution do you play games at? because unless your playing over 1680x1050 even a stock 5770 will play games smoothly.. but as for overclocks on the card.. easiest thing to do is to look up some reviews for the card and check out their overclocking results in the reviews.. should give you an idea of what is the better overclocking card..

Wait a bit longer maybe, there have been articles speculating that 5830 is coming around Jan 25 (IIRC) for ~200

I hope a 5830 shows up in the next couple weeks. I'll be shopping for a card next month and something in between a 5770 and 5850 for $200 would be perfect. It definitely feels like something's missing from ATI's lineup, with the 4890 filling the gap between the 5770 and 5850 right now, so a 5830 would make sense.

To the op in regards to a 5770: look for the newer egg shaped cooler and voltage adjustment for overclocking, like Asus and MSI, not sure about other brands.

i like my sapphire vapor-x alot, as ive said in the other 5770 threads, Ive been getting 30-35C idle and 45C load (60% fan speed) while being overclocked to 975/1350 while playing mass effect maxed out @ 1280x1024 (not much of a bencher so i havnt done any)

I've heard a lot of great things about MSI and their ATi cards lately, do some research on their video cards.

Most of the original reference HD5770s are flash friendly and can be BIOS/software tweaked for nice over clocks. A decent after market cooling solution is nice to go with as well.

Asus comes with the voltage unlocked if you don't want to flash your bios and void your warranty. Otherwise, they are pretty much all the same.

As newster stated, Asus is hard to beat for overclocking features since it's shipped with controllable voltage and higher core/mem limits in Overdrive. Not having to flash your new card is always a plus in my mind.

He's in Canada. You won't find a 5830 for under 230 here, I would bet. I would get the 5770 if you don't game at super high resolutions and se about refreshes later on in the year.

OP I have a sapphire 5770 V2 running at 940/1400 now, and I don't see anything not being about to run on it at high settings for some time.
