Best option for data integrity on Security DVR

I'm building a security DVR, probably will have 8 IP cameras total, they are 1440p. I want to have about a week of footage so i'm looking at at least 6TB. What would be the best way to protect the footage from hard drive going bad? Should I go brute force RAID1 2x6TB (most expensive) or would something like a bunch of cheap 2TB drives with something like Drivebender/Drivepool work? I see some really cheap 2TB drives out there so i can get 10x 2TB refurb drives for the cost of 2x6TB. Would drivebender/pool provide enough redundancy? Thanks for the insight!
 
sigh....i thought this thread about about data security. Misread and got all excited about maybe learning about a system that prevented data theft from being stolen while running like by police or theft :/

RAID 6 or next gen file system is what you want. I am sure someone else will be by shortly to tell you about ZFS.

Also include hardware details and what OS you want to use so one of the more informed guys can give you better info.

Why 1440p? Are the optics that good in all light conditions such that you will be able to realistically take advantage of the 1440p? Remember...MP's don't matter if the sensor and optics are shit. If you are getting good enough cameras to warrant 1440p, then a few 6TB drives should be a drop in the bucket cost wise. See where i'm going here? Have you considered the impact of running 8 devices continuously at over 100 Mbps/sec of network bandwidth (e.g. is this a dedicated network)? Is this wireless or wired?

Sorry if this seems mean...but i'm just trying to see if you have a grasp of the larger picture (pun intended)

1440P can be 1MBps-20MBps depending on compression so he could be fine on 1Gb E link on server side. He could also be smart and have server on 10Gb E for all we know.

Now can the HDDs keep up with 80-160MBps? depends. I honestly highly doubt they are high bit rate cameras plust the storage requirements for that bitrate would be nuts.
