What would you guys recommend to get? I'll admit it! I loved playing BF Vietnam and Battlefield 2 offline and was sorely disappointed when I found BF3 does not have an offline multiplayer. I loved it for those days that I didn't have internet or when I simply didn't feel like getting owned by people 9x my skill level. The only game I was really good at online was counter-strike.

But a lot of times I just enjoy loading up a map with some bots and having fun shooting at them. Should I just get BF2 again, or is there newer/other games I could consider?

The only offline FPS I've personally ever enjoyed is the UT series. Otherwise it would be RTS games, but it seems like you want FPS games only. I'm assuming you are referring to games where the offline mode is just the online mode but with bots? And not something like say Rainbow Six Vegas?

Unreal Tournament (original or 2k4) with a whole bunch of mods is a great game to pass around at a LAN and shoot the shit with friends for hours. Mods are easy to install in both games and can do anything from small changes to hilarious levels of mayhem or entire game mods (like Frag Ops in UT or Red Orchestra in UT2004, which is its own game now).

Also pretty much the best game you can play for offline bot play, so its got that going for it too.

Yes, sounds like maybe it's a dying breed. I used to have a lot of fun in UT, Quake and Battlefield just loading maps up and just start shooting.

BF and CoD have really disappointed me single-player wise, it seems you just walk down a predetermined path and shoot at stuff, there is no planning involved, no alternative routes, no freedom whatsoever. Which I probably why I am looking forward to the new Hitman so much.

But still, I had a lot of fun in BF2 just playing around with vehicles, airplanes, different weapons or just shooting without the pressures of online play. Sometimes it was a way to improve my skills for online play and sometimes I just had the desire to mindlessly shoot at a bunch of bots, without a care in the world.

Unreal Tournament 99 GOTY edition or 2K4

Twisted Metal

when I had a private office at work I used to spend countless hours playing CS:S and BF2 with bots, also played alot of offline NFS and Red Alert 3 (skirmish with bots).

but i'll have to say the bots in all these games are stupid.
in CS the bots in cs_assault map will get stuck in the vent for ever. and they'll either spam an entire clip without hitting you or headshot you before you fire one bullet. I can prone inside the fountain in that BF2 map and the entire bot team will keep going around it for ever. and once you killed the bot main army in RA3 they won't rebuild another even if you wait them for ever.

Hah, good old Red Alert. I feel your pain. Once you destroy a building or two the game is pretty much over. They never regroup no matter what difficulty you play it on. Saying all that I now have urge to play Red Alert 1 :( Should I do it?

WoW, some love for UT in this thread. I'll add my vote for it. I used to play against the bots quite a bit way back when I had a crappy net connection. Crank up the difficulty level and they can give you a real challenge.

I also loved all the mods such as the giant bathroom with low G and instakill shock rifles (or maybe the players were tiny)

Haha yeah, I really enjoyed dual wielding the pistols in UT on that space level with low gravity with three towers and a runway way down below. I spent countless hours on that map.

left 4 dead 2 kind of fits the bill. with server mods and add on maps, the game can be a blast. 4 on 4 with unlimited ammo and massive zombie hordes make shooting fun. try the helms deep map and see how long you and some friends can last :)
