Anyone recommend one? Would preferably like something able to run 3D games and play DVDs. Thanks.

Well, the 12" iBook would be able to handle pretty much anything but games (it's only got a 32 MB videocard, and it's a Mac, so there aren't a lot of games for it), and it's 1099 standard.

32MB Videocard is not really gonna stop alot of games
I have only a 32Mb Radeon 9000 in my T40 and it plays UT2004
better than my desktop with a 64 geforce ti4200

hpshopping.com -> Compaq R3000Z -> 1.8Ghz Athlon 64 3000+, 40GB HDD, 15" screen, 802.11g built in, GeForce Go 440, FireWire,DVD-ROM drive, 1173$ -100$ MIR = 1073$.
Seems to be a pretty good deal.

dell had a ok one on there website it was 1200 though.

Here's another that's a bit over 1k but it is _awesome_

eMachines M6805: AMD Athlon 64 3000, ATI Radeon 9600, 512 ram, 60gb drive, DVD/CD-R, 54g wireless. I bought it out of necesity so I haven't memorized all the specs but it is awesome, actually better than the P4 2.4 tower I was using.

There are a lot of rave reviews on this board:
