I know this is a retarded thread, but I'm curious, there has to be a best mouse pad for optical mice.

hard to say.. depends on what you definition of BEST is.. we all have different tastes.. personally, I'm very fond of my original ratpadz, but some will argue... it all depends on how slick, large, cost, texture, material, etc you like.. to each his own

I like the mouse pads I get for free. I dont think I have ever bought one/

Do they improve your gaming ?? ( ratpads)

Yes, without a doubt a massive improvement in accuracy and speed..

My roommate only uses his desk with his MX510, and he's OK, but I always pick up more headshots then him with my MX500, since I also have Teflon tape on my mouse feet, and keep a freshly pledged ratpad.. I can blow my mouse off the pad with a single breath, without try to hard.. shit has VERY little resistance.. And because of that, it's easier for me to track targets..

alot of best gamers in the world use large cloth mousemats. switching to a much lower sensitivity and using the entire tracking surface improves your consistancy and accuracy. some people use medium sensitivity on func pad.

the very high sensitivity very low resistance hard mat is really a convention of the casual gamer.

It's all personal preference. In all honesty, it's up to you. I personally use a func1030 (rough side) and a MX510 (high sensitivity) so I dont need a lot of room to control my mouse.

Or people who don't want carpal tunnel.

It takes considerably more skill and practice to be accurate with a high precision mouse and hard pad than low precision and cloth. Low precision and cloth pads reward laziness with game practice (and provide repetitve stress injuries).

You can have my Boomslang 2100dpi and Icemat when you can pry it from my cold, dead, hands!

takes more skill = you're making it harder on yourself, no? With low sensitivity you mouse with your whole arm, reducing repetitive stress injury. It's the constant back and forth flicking of the wrist that strains your muscles. Trust me you can play for hours and hours with a low sensitivity if you move your whole arm and just small wrist movements.

I use my desk, it has worked absolutely wonderful for years now. A plain 8.5x11 piece of paper works too, and they are available in 100s of colors, textures, and thicknesses. ;)

my bro and i both have mx510 which is AWESOME i might add...for some reason i have to keep cleaning to top of it regularly, and for that i have a very small spray bottle of rubbing alcohol on my desk...i have a Ratpadz..i love it...awesome..BUT, it grinds down the pads on my mouse, and for the past few weeks ive noticed a slight drop in performance.. my brother on the otherhand came up with a wonderfull idea...GLASS

glass you say?...but the led in the mouse wont work on glass...ya i know, i tried...but what my bro did was place a very dark, and thin peice of cloth under it and voila MAGIC perfect surface...its like working on oil..perfect surface...i havent tried it because i dont have any extra glass..but its a perfect surface for the sniper my bro is

P.S. HALO is god
