Best Monitors for Gaming?

What are the best monitors for gaming? I am probably leaning toward a CRT over an LCD. Basically, I'm tired of enabling Vertical Synchronization to get rid of the tearing that occurs when playing titles such as Doom 3, Far Cry, and Half Life 2. My current monitor is a Dell '17 inch with a 60hz refresh rate at 1600x1200, which is what I game at. Ennabling V-sync thus caps my frames per second at 60. Also, I am looking to spend $400 to $500, but am willing to go higher if need be. Any suggestions?

Viewsonic P95F+B 19" Aperture Grille

Mitsubishi Diamondtron 22" (forget the exact name)

I'm getting the Viewsonic P95F+B soon...

It's jet black.. flat... has extra bright modes for gaming/movies... will be way better for games than any lcd out there.

Displays a maximum resolution of 2048x1536; 1600x1200 optimal resolution at 87Hz flicker-free refresh rate for easy-on-the-eyes viewing.
-2048x1536 @ 68Hz
-1920x1440 @ 73Hz
-1856x1392 @ 75Hz
-1600x1200 @ 87Hz

The Sony SDM-HS94P is ideal, BUT there's a pretty big "if" thrown in.
The monitor has a history of backlight issues that are either there...or not. Reading articles on this board essentially makes this boil down to the manufacturing date. Monitors from week 44 to current are supposedly very unlikely to have this issue, whereas those before week 40 tend to be 50/50. If you have the issue...it essentially looks like all of the 4 sides of your monitor are bleeding too much light into the screen. You're left with an "X" shaped section that looks normal and the rest of the screen being too bright. Mine was a Week 39 that started out looking okay, but ended up getting worse...so I've RMA'd it and am waiting on a brand new one right now.

In terms of specs - it's a 19" 12MS with good colors as well as analog/DVI as an option. Price varies, but I think you can likely find one in the $500 range.

I'd read some articles on this board and check your stores. Honestly, I'd probably wait until the bleeding issue monitors have already been bought up, though. I'm pretty sure that by Feb, most major stores like CompUSA or BestBuy will have shipments entirely of monitors made after week 44.

"Like this bad boy?"

2048 x 1536 @ 86 Hz  20" with that res... is bloody huge.

Samsung 172x is my choice. Takes up very little space, absolutely no ghosting, the only trade off is that colors are not perfect, ie slight washed out, but that can generally be fixed with tweaking using the provided tools. Once you go LCD you'll never go back, I personally can't stand looking at CRTs anymore, maybe its cause I've never had an expensive once, but LCDs are so clear with text and easy on the eyes, I love it.

I am leaning towards the Mitsubishi_Diamond_Pro_2070SB_22_CRT_Monitor. I do alot of gaming at 1600x1200. For gamers, far to little emphasis is placed on having a quality monitor capable of good refresh rates at higher resolutions. I don't want to have to enable V-sync in alot of todays gpu intensive games.

Whatever you buy just make sure its not a viewsonic, id have to say they the worst monitor makers. All of there CRT'S are blurry and hurt the eyes. My brother just went throgh 2 p95 and 2 g90fb from dell and they all went back to dell. The worst monitors I ahve ever used

Mitsubishi 930sb 2070sb
