ok ive seen reviews where the gtx 260 beats the 4870 and the other way around. i run at 1440x900 max graphics most cod4 and older games. which is the best? i hate all these damn reviews some same 1way others say different.

4870 and GTX260 perform very close, maybe 4870 slightly faster on average but nothing big difference.
Infact for your resolution a 4850 would suffice I think. Thats the real mid-range card.

The "mid-range" market is for cards priced between $100 to $200, not for cards priced at almost $300 or more. If your sig is still current, then going from a 7950gt to a 4850 would be your best choice for a "mid-range" upgrade. I would say to hold off a little longer, I have a feeling that 4850s should be coming down to the $150 price range (read without any rebates) soon.
