Hello!

So I am looking for a nice microphone that will work well in area with quite a bit of background noise. I have some hand issues, and I am getting Nuance Dragon to assist me with work. I currently have Zalman Zm-1. It is decent for $8, but I want something better because it picks up too much background noise.

I don't want to buy a headset as I like my Beyerdynamic DT880. I would prefer a clip-on mic that I can clip to either the DT880 wire itself or even my shirt collar works. Any suggestions??
 
It's rumored that a new modmic is coming soon if you don't mind attaching a boom mic. Even the current one is noise cancelling. The base clasps remove cleanly without residue, ime, if that's a concern.

Alternately, you could tackle the noise issue another way. The andrea usb sound pod has extremely good electronic noise reduction for sound 'card'. Can be toggled on/off and even set to aggressive mode to eliminate even more background noise. For me, in the past it could turn a mic that picked up everything in the background into one that was effectively a really good noise cancelling mic. With no noticeable loss of voice 'quality' in the non-aggressive mode.

hmm, good ideas. I will definitely consider modmic as it looks good. I probably won't get the sound pod because I'm looking for some portability. I want to limit how many things I carry around from home to work daily

What if I were to double the budget up to $100 or even $150? DT880 for home but mic has to be small simple clip, plug and use (I may be using it without headphones with Dragon). I honestly don't mind if it's professional level lavalier mic that they use in studios.

-lapel mic
-noise cancelling
-portability (some studio mics require amplifiers so I would exclude those mics)
-decent quality
 
The best mic I've found for noisy situations is the Audio Technica PRO 8HEx. Amazing off axis noise rejection, like you could use it on a factory floor. Not precisely suited for what you are asking, but it might work. I use mine with speakers and actually wear it around my neck, rather than on my head.

May not work for you, but have a look and see because it really does noise rejection well.
 
ModMic 3.0 or 4.0 uni-directional is well-known for having good noise-cancellation.
 
Where do you guys get the modmic 4.0 unidirectional. I cant seem to ever find it in stock.

Which one would you buy to try to hook up to a computer? The pro 88w terminated one?

I'd call Audio Technica and ask them. I decided to run mine through a preamp so I could better adjust levels and apply some compression/limiting so I got one with XLR output. I would presume that one that is 1/8" terminated would work, but I'd make sure they say it will.
