Since newegg no longer carries the Mushkin Level 2 Black, whats the best ovcerclocking memory? The Kingston HyperX seems the best since it runs at 2-2-2 but I'm afraid it wont be able to reach high P4 fsbs.

Any suggestions?
 
The only Kingston HyperX memory that i know of that can run 2-2-2 is the PC3000 and that is because it uses Winbond BH chips. You dont really need high overclocking memory if you have a motherboard that will use dividers. Its best to just buy PC3200 or PC3500 that can run at least 2-3-2 and set your divider to 5:4 or 3:2 and overclock that way if its an Intel system. You dont need the RAM running at high speeds for more bandwidth in order to get the performance from the FSB increase.
 
Intel systems aren't like AMD ones that perform the best at a 1:1 ratio. Intel chipsets can perform well synchrous and asynchrous.
 
I've been building systems with OCZ's low latency with AMD and P4 systems and HOLY CRAP! Yah, it's fast and actually runs at reated 2-2-2-5 without upping the voltage. Not long ago I wouldn't use it, but thier new sticks are proving out to be good.

Could someone give me an apporximate ration of latency-to-bus speeds? For example, how would a 2-2-2 running at 180mhz compare to a 2.5-3-3 at 250mhz? Sorry if its a bit off, memory isn't my area of expertise.
 
Dont worry about how fast the memory is running as long as its around 200Mhz, especially for a Pentium 4 rig that has dual channel.

The speed of the memory just allocates more bandwidth and more bandwidth rarely translates to more performance unless your using a bandwidth hungry program. Games wont need alot of bandwidth and timings will affect performance anywhere from 3-5% usually.

Which processor do you have? I can give you better suggestions if i know exactly how far you are planning to overclock and what you are using.
 
I'm building a comp for my friend, right now I'm stuck between the 2.4, the 2.6 and the 2.8. Northwood ofcourse.

Well, depends when it was made ;) Some of us got lucky and score HyperX PC3200 that's BH-5 during the summer :p

But anyway, right now HyperX uses CH-5, whereas ther mushkin 2-2-2 special uses BH-6. BH5>BH6>CH5

Again though with dividers and P4 setups high FSB is more important than tight timing.
