best low profile gpu block for SLi?

hahaha this is awesome. now i need some popcorn

oh and me n rev are still loving our new maze4 gpu blocks even before they have arrived or are installable. oh and i am still waitin to see what swiftech comes out with. awesome.

and coming from a person who bought a lian li v1000 (one of the most expensive cases at the time) i still wouldnt be able to afford the AC stuff even tho i think they are REALLY pretty. really.

The aqua stream pump scales from a 1046 to a slightly higher than 1048, yes I know. However a 1048 is not comparable to a D5...it simply doesn't have the same power. The D5 is nearly as quiet so why not make an aquastream based around it? You dont need to throw out the current eheim based aquastream, merely make an addition to your lineup. This would allow AC to appeal to the performance enthusiasts as well as the bling enthusiasts.

Well I suppose so but I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon. What do you think happens when you mate a D5 to a 6mm ID tube? Sounds to me like a big waste of time and money.

As to how I know AC stuff does better with 3/8".... its elementary my dear watson. EVERYTHING performs better with wider tubing. The thing you have to watch out for is diminishing returns. But what I said that you seemed to skip over was that the only tubing size that I "poo pooed" was 6mm, as that is ridiculously small.

No I didn't miss that part and for an answer see my previous paragraph. The Aquastream is well suited to the tubing for which it is "designed" (as in engineered?) to run with, yes? ;)

AC success would not bother me at all, as it might mean that they get a better distribution channel in the US which would mean better prices. I think if yourself TN and a couple of the other AC Legionaries on this forum would turn off your "Fog of War" you would notice there are very few people on this forum who have any sort of ill will towards AC or other European watercooling products. What most of the people however hate is the hostile and downright combative attitude that you and others take to "defend" your products even when not under attack. Sometimes it seems like any thread that mentions AC deserves some type of jab at "top fuel" setups, or defending of "go low and ride slow" setups. Meanwhile any thread that fails to mention AC is obviously in dire need of hawking your wares. That is exactly how you and many others come off, and is exactly why you may see others as hostile towards AC, when they are really defensive/annoyed/hostile towards you.

Hmm...I think that I have toned down quite a bit lately, no mention of top fueler's or high flow flaming. I do really like my sig though as it certainly points to what I think and I don't think that will change anytime in the future. So why don't we see you ragging on others who talk about lower flowing designs in a much more negative connotation?

Actually I think this whole thread has degenerated down to some place that I don't really care to be...so see ya later. I will go back to working on Feeding Frenzy which is something I enjoy. :p

Going back on topic:

These are all rumors right now, but CrazyPC is showing an mcw-55 (scroll down to vga/chipset blocks) which should perform better than the current mcw-50 (and DD Maze4 gpu, which performs about the same as the mcw-50).

While CrazyPC could be making this up, if you want to take the mcw-55 siting to be true, you could then guess that the mcw-55 could be another colaberation between Cathar and Swiftech, possibly based on his Hydra gpu block that has been in developement for a while now.

Then again, both of those previous guesses could be completely wrong, but there is an actual new gpu block about ready to be produced:

As discussed in this OCForums thread, STASIS Thermal Management, known for its excellent performing heatsinks, is making a new gpu block using jet impingement, and will be accepting preorders soon:

If you want your gpu block(s) no, you'd be fine with the mcw-50 or Maze4 gpu, but if you like to have the latest and greatest...

Ooooo... jet impingement will gain you a LOT of good surface area with water going by it... Wow... I think I see my first upgrade. lol. Well - looks like AC is trying to do something similar with this block

EDIT: sorry - wrong pic - here's the right one
http://www.sharkacorp.com/images/aquacomputer/cuplex-xt/cpx-xt-bse-lg.gif
from this group:
http://sharkacomputers.com/aqcocuxtcpub.html
(that looks like one nice cpu block - btw)

little nubs sticking up in the middle right over the cpu die and in direct path of the water...

Now - I can almost see the logic behind low flow systems with these pins/nubs sticking up, because it lets the water/coolant pass through them more easily, making contact and letting the little mini "towers" shed heat better (longer contact times + better/more thorough flow paterns)... at higher speeds the flow paterns will be all distorted and such... seems like to me... plus there are different rates at which different mediums shed/absorb heat... isn't that 'specfic heat'? wow... it's been a while since physics, but I think that's it.. anyways... I guess then for low flow systems it's very important for them to shed their heat very well in the radiator!!

ok - anyways - sorry more OT but all of my water cooling thoughts are pouring out here (no pun ).
:D

i aint no expert revo but i dont think thats it at all.
firstly lots of stuff have the lil towers, to create turbulence, cuz smooth strems end up having layers of storts is how i remember it so what happens is not all of the water in te block is actually doin the job of drawing heat. so yea tons of blocks are chopped and grooved like that.
second: jet impingement blah is where the inlet barb is split up into a buncha lil jets which means a buncha triangular mini tubes towards the end of the barb i suppose so it SPRAYS the water onto the block like your kitchen faucet would.
third i heard someone say supn about speed of water dont relaly affect the rate of dissipation or supn, i dunno it might have been in one of cathar's long posts with calculations etc.

anyhoo thats what i think though i may be wrong. :O

slightly back on topic i glad i didnt wait for the new swiftech block if tat ends up being it since well, it looks just like the old one, i was lookin for it to have a new design not jsut internal. or maybe thats just a placeholder pic.

.

So supposedly a more powerful pump performs better? Now, on a review by System Cooling, they said it only makes a 1 degree C difference.

http://www.systemcooling.com/zalman_res-08.html

In other words, it seems they are saying (in this case, the test is on the reserator, but I presume the study applies to all radiators), that the radiator part of the unit only has that much heat dissipating capacity, so to upgrade to a Eheim 1048, the radiator cannot dissipate the heat fast enough for the extra flow rate to make a significant difference.

What's your take on that review?

Here are some pic's of the new Aqua Computer GPU and chipset coolers that will be here in the states in a few weeks from now. They share a common base plate so they can be used in either a chipset or GPU mode. The bases are also compatible with the existing TwinPlex tops and they will be available for purchase as a complete chipset, GPU, or just the base alone.

w00t... got my lo-pro maze4 today... and had the TDX... ok - photo op...
wc1.JPG

I should be getting my other maze4 and the flow meter later today also... whew... I have been saving a LOT of $$ also... bought all these parts with the sale $$ from my BuySellTrade work on the forum, and still have $3 in my PayPal account. hello Challupa lunch! w00t. :) Hehhhhhhhhhhh!!

EDIT: roli - I think you are right... I remember from my car modding days that ported and polished heads were good, but only at a high RMPs... the little irregularities in the metal actually help by adding more surface area and change flow, slow it down, make it more turbulent, which is what you want with cooling I guess... so that jet design is to spay the coolant out of jets... ok, DOINK! sorry.. seems like it might be a little restrictive, but you can aim the cooland jets where you want for max coverage of the "cooling prongs" (or whatever)...
oh, and BTW - your PM inbox is full. heh..

okey - just got the full sized maze4 and it's in grrreat condition. here they are side by side
wc3.JPG

the lo-pro is really lower... DUH! but when you see them apart it's hard to tell unless you know what to look for... :)

Congrats m8! I flippin love my Maze-4 ..I guess if I ever go SLi I'll have an excuse to get a 2nd low-profile as well.
