best low profile gpu block for SLi?

I am going to water cool my SLi setup, and wanted to know if the DD maze4 "low profile" block were the best for that? I already have one non-low profile maze4, so I was going to put that one on the gpu1 card (not inbetween the cards) and then get a low profile one for the gpu0 card (in the middle of the video card sandwitch ;)). Do you think DD will sell me one of the low profile ones seperately? I see them only in a set of two... hmmmm... any other suggestion for hardware for me?

Love that lili v1000 case and the nice compact koolance cooling hardware config.. I know it's a lot of $$, but I think it'll be worth it. Anyways, I have a DD TDX and maze4 (both 3/8), just need the final gpu block...

Well why not get the Exos II and then you can get whatever case you want. The system you are looking at has a hole cut in the top by Koolance and they then just take the top part of the Exos II and bolt it in.
 
revanent, you didn't look very hard. The "Two (2) MAZE4GPU Low Profile" part in the SLI kit page is a hyperlink for the single low profile Maze4 page :p

The Maze4 gpu isn't very restrictive, so it would cool well using an Exos, but you would be able to cool your GTs even better with a higher performance loop. If you really want it simple, I would recommend the Swiftech Apex kit, or for you to piece together your own loop. Before you buy a kit, read this.

The reason I wanted to get that koolance pre-mod is I liked the simplicity of the exos II and that wanted to get that lianli v1000 (love the BTX arrangement) or maybe 1200 even (but it's friggin big). Anyways, I know what I would be getting, I read the reviews, I know it's not the top performer, I know it's a v1000 with a hole cut in it, but I would have gotten the v1000 anyways and it still does a good job of cooling; plus it's so clean looking. I just don't want my case to be crammed with pumps and reservoirs, etc... I want to have a balance between clean looking and good performing... anyways, that just seemed to be it. :) but I haven't bought it yet, so I guess I can still be swayed!! heh... hmmmmmmmmmmm

Well then perhaps you might be interested in an Aqua Computer solution? There is a considerable amount of information in this thread and appropriate links. Aqua Computer will give you what you are looking for if "clean looking and good performing" is your ticket. My Feeding Frenzy project might give you some good ideas and the previous link has some links that go to some notable Aqua Computer projects as well. BTW, the new RamPlex's should be here in the uSA in about 10 days. The AquagraFX 7800's and TwinPlex Pro's should be here in less than 3-4 weeks as well. :D

so yea rev, im with you on the koolance case thing, i think its put together neatly. nice to not HAVE to get a dremel out and slave over a case if thats not you bag of tea. and this way its all in one neat place and then you just pick yer blocks n plug in. its gonna look great man!

just pick the best 3/8" parts (right?)
 
Yes - the aquacomputer setups look very nice... really very extremely nice. :) Thanks for all the feedback folks! TopNurse - wow, love the work you have done so far... I think that v1200 is such a great case for doing what ur doing to it. Lots of room and equally ample amounts of class. Anyways, lots of good info in that thread! I'll keep scanning around, but I think I am going to give the koolance a whirl... I've had my heart set on it for some time... and I think it'll be a fairly easy first water cooling project. Also, yes roli, it is all about maximizing effect with the best 3/8 inch parts since I am going with the smaller diameter tubing... !! :D

My first watercooling is Koolance since everything is plug n' play (maybe 4 years ago) but later I got to know more about watercooling and I decided to do DIY and modding my case, just in case look at the radiator in Koolance, less surface and too thin so of course it's good for low fans w/ slightly better than air, you can have that kind of budget to send on V1000 and watercooling parts why not buy your own parts to get better results and cheaper too. I used to have Lian Li PC-75 w/ BIX III, Storm G4 and Maze4 GPU w/ dual AQX 50z pumps, and it was sold long ago so now I'm using V2100 w/ Thermochill PA160, Storm G5 w/ single AQX 50z for almost silent watercooling w/ excellent temps
 
oh shat, did anyone think about the fact that its an aluminum radiator? 0_0 youll need an anticorrosion fluid i think...
 
Yes Koolance is using aluminum radiator in their systems so you will definately want to add either antifreeze or coolant for anticorrosion, since the loop w/ so much aluminum then you need to change water like once every month or two to keep it clean (my suggestion that's all)

PS: Hard911 - thanks for the feedback on the koolance... hmmm... more things to think about... Well - part of me would like to get a v1200 and build my own system... but I think I am going to stick to my more conservative guns here and get the koolance... It just seems to be the right fit for me performance wise and esthetically with minimal hassle. I am all about hassle free these days... my job is so demanding... wow. Once I am done with my 1st h2o build I am sure I will start planning the 2nd one... and I am sure it will be fully customized, so I am taking notes for that already. :)
 
get the pentosin man, and today while i was searcing for mine i actually found a couple more places that sold it with varying shipping and cost prices. oh and i learnt that the color of pentosin changed depending on the make/year and model of the audi/VW vehicle it was normally put in. they got red, purple and blue man. anyhoo i think my final cost was $15 shipped so holla at me.

but im pushin you for the pentosin plus its ALL about the anti-corrosion for mixed metal fools like ourselves.

sorry to disappoint you revenant, there is no such thing of hassle free when it comes to watercooling, most of people worried about leaking and top of that Koolance's block w/ plexi top which is another thing you should worry about cracking, but if you like the look of Koolance pre-modded then it's all good since Koolance offers quiet watercooling if you are sensitive to noise
 
yeah - I guess that is true, in that, no such thing as hassle free wc, but I am looking for the least amount of potential hassle... Anyways, I ordered my lo-pro maze4 today... Also re-read this review of the case I am looking at getting:

It's highly unlikely to crack a Koolance block. The fittings are bonded to the plastic top and the only thing that gets tightened down is the compression fitting. Also the Koolance attachment that holds the waterblock on is thee best system I have ever seen for watercooling, bar none. :D

I run maze4 low profile SLI blocks on my 7800gtx sli config. Easy install and max temps do not get above 45ish at being overclocked to 500/1330.
 
TopNurse and Teecee - thx for alleviating any buyers remorse i might have had... lol. i am going to be running one lo-pro maze4 (on gpu0 - where i have little space due to my msi mobo) and one reg-size maze4 (on gpu1 - where i have room for the full sized block)... going to get a chrome top for the full sized maze4 also, since the btx config will be showing that one off. heh... getting very eager about this project now...

Regardless of how you put it, the Silverprop Fusion SL is still one of, if not the top GPU blocks on the PRO water cooling sites........... :D

If I didn't go DIY on everything in life i would have went for one of these integrated systems. very nice.

btw, I'm running a custom h20 DDen in my V2000. It really is a mess chopping up a case like that in a DIY fashion. The little integrated v1000 case will be nice.

I reccomend investigating how much it will cost to replace a broken pump. ...as they seem to be the weak link in my rigs.

I reccomend the DangerDen Maze-4 low profile. (bracing for german fans to swarm in) I'm very happy with mine, and it has fit both my x850xt PCI-e, 6800U/GT AGP cards. ...see I actually bought into the gimmicky NV-68 water block, which rocks beyond belief for GPU OCing, however I can't use it on the 7800GTx family of cards... ..where as the Maze-4 will keep on working. :D yay.

Even if you stray away from the "MADE IN THE USA" equipment, make sure that your GPU blocks for SLi are future proof. *So* when we all find out that ATI Crossfire isn't just vaporware, you can experiment w/o having to buy new cooling equipment.

I've been using my TDX CPU block for about 1 year now, and all I have to do when upgrading my socket is order a sub $10 piece of plastic which lets me mount it up properly.

gimmicky WC stuff I blew my $$ on.

also, a benefit of the lianli v1000/koolance exos kit over my v2000 DIY kit is.... You're compatable with the vapochill [LS] units... where as the larger v2k cases just look silly on top of a vapochill
 
fore1337 - thanks for chiming in with your thoughts and experiences of the hardware I am planning on using... I think I have a nice solid system planned out for quiet, classy, and cool system. hehe... it's going to be nice... now I am getting impatient to order the case... doh! I have to wait until I get home from vacation. wait for it..... waaaait for it........ waaaiiit. ;)

Jeez...I hope your not referring to ProCooling as the last time they did a watercooling review appears to be about 9 months ago. :eek: There have been lots of new designs out since then so in effect are you not quoting outdated information? :p

You all know what, the only thing I've got against Aquacomputer components is the FAN BOY CRAP that goes on around here with them. I got my first AquaComputer parts long before any of you here in the US even heard about them Still got them as a matter of fact, just don't use them anymore and can't sell them as they were a gift from my daughters who live in Germany.

Well I just visited Watercoolplanet and their doesn't appear to be any G5 or for that matter even a G4/Storm block on the charts so does that mean that it's bunk? ;) Actually the Cuplex Pro is listed in the #8 spot, which has been superseeded by the Cuplex XT. The XT shows in other tests to be about a bit better than the NexXxos HP Pro and not quite as good as the NexXxos XP IIRC.

Some of the blocks that are commonly recommended around here as higher flow system components are actually not even in the running. Such as the Little River Cascade, Danger Den RBX, Asetek Antarctica, and the Dtek White Water. And the really odd part is how an Aqua Computer Cuplex Pro with a measly 6mm ID tube beats out all the blocks I just mentioned in the previous sentence. :eek:

Why does AquaComputer use 1/4 tubing? Are there really strong pumps in them to get the water moving even with the smaller ID?

I know my setup will only be 3/8s" but also I know I can get more powerful pumps as an upgrade option for the koolance... I guess with more power in the pump comes more pressure, so leaks could be more of an issue... ? ...better get all those tubes on well...:) What's the concensus there? zip ties? or actual "release-able" plastic tube clamps? Those clamps looked a little large, so I was going to use zip ties. Is liquid silicone ever used as "lock-tight" (if you will) on the barbs just before the tube is put on them? ...maybe only for really high pressure setups?

You raise an interesting point and something that isn't becoming as much of a point nowadays. A few years ago almost everything AC did was with small 1/4" tubing. However contrary to your belief AC typically pairs their systems with comparatively weak pumps. So not only do they use restrictive tubing, but they also use weak pumps. Now however as watercooling philosophies are starting to converge the traditional low flow, small diameter european watercooling is becoming more of a moderate flow moderate tubing size systems. You can use AC equipment with up to 3/8" tubing, and it really does perform much better. There really is as little point in using 6mm(1/4") tubing these days as there is in using 1/2 or 3/4" tubing. The middleground of 3/8" tubing seems to be an excellent trade off in routing the tubing and eliminating the effects of the tubing restriction. I think that using 10mm - 12mm setups for lower flow systems and 3/8" - 7/16" setups for higher flow should be how most, if not all systems are configured.

Now what I only wish is if AC were to make an Aquastream based around a more powerful pump than the 1046, like maybe the D5. Think about it, the D5 already has support to use the potentiometer on the pump to control the speed, so it shouldn't be too hard to add onto that to make it compatible with the Aquaero. Pair that with a 3/8" setup and a Cuplex XT and you have a system that can both be whisper quiet, and when needed you can crank up the juice a bit and cool as good as most other systems out there. (Still I would think the price would make it out of my range, but it would be quite nice nevertheless).

Rather than looking at the date of a review, how about we pay attention to the important things, such as testing methodology, testing equipment, testing environment, and data provided. The data on watercoolplanet.de is quite sophmoric and their testing methodolgy...well I couldn't even find a testing methodology. You cant measure a waterblocks performance in a single number as they did. You need to measure it in a graph, as a waterblocks performance is highly variable across many different conditions. At the very least you need to provide under what conditions the specified value was obtained, and watercoolplanet.de does not even provide that.

As I said in another thread, numbers are great but they need to be achieved and presented in a scientifically sound matter. In this perspective the results at procooling while they may be old, are far from out of date. The numbers obtained are still very much valid and probably the best reviews you can find anywhere, the comparisons are simply incomplete.

Of course they do fine for most people, as I have said many times. For most people who are not doing serious overclocking ANY (notice the key word there ANY TN, and not AC) watercooling solution will work just fine. Hell most watercooling solutions designed with any ounce of sense are good for decent overclocks as well.

The aqua stream pump scales from a 1046 to a slightly higher than 1048, yes I know. However a 1048 is not comparable to a D5...it simply doesn't have the same power. The D5 is nearly as quiet so why not make an aquastream based around it? You dont need to throw out the current eheim based aquastream, merely make an addition to your lineup. This would allow AC to appeal to the performance enthusiasts as well as the bling enthusiasts.

As to how I know AC stuff does better with 3/8".... its elementary my dear watson. EVERYTHING performs better with wider tubing. The thing you have to watch out for is diminishing returns. But what I said that you seemed to skip over was that the only tubing size that I "poo pooed" was 6mm, as that is ridiculously small.

AC success would not bother me at all, as it might mean that they get a better distribution channel in the US which would mean better prices. I think if yourself TN and a couple of the other AC Legionaries on this forum would turn off your "Fog of War" you would notice there are very few people on this forum who have any sort of ill will towards AC or other European watercooling products. What most of the people however hate is the hostile and downright combative attitude that you and others take to "defend" your products even when not under attack. Sometimes it seems like any thread that mentions AC deserves some type of jab at "top fuel" setups, or defending of "go low and ride slow" setups. Meanwhile any thread that fails to mention AC is obviously in dire need of hawking your wares. That is exactly how you and many others come off, and is exactly why you may see others as hostile towards AC, when they are really defensive/annoyed/hostile towards you.
