My 8800GTS will be here tomorrow. :D :D :D So I'd like to ask everyone's opinion on what PC game has the most eye candy right now? (I'm just hoping this isn't a repeat of when I bought my 6800gt... it was two months before I had a game that really completely used it!)

From what little I saw at the NYCC demo, lord of the rings online looks pretty amazing if you can crank up the settings. the view distance is awesome. i guess the game doesn't come out for a few more months though.

Oblivion, Doom 3 and Far Cry would be the games I'd like to see with all the eye candy cranked up.

Dark Messiah looks impressive with the graphics cranked up (tweaked HL2 engine).

i have that game with my 8800 gts purchase, how is the game anyways? i read some bad reviews... should i even spend time trying to play it?

Doesn't Condemned use the same engine as fear? if so Condemned looks alot better.

Yeah it does, I think it looks better, it's more detailed. But then FEAR had much larger battles and had a lot of neat bullet effects which you didn't really get in Condemned.

Dark Messiah is very pretty and post-patching it is now a pretty decent game. Worth a free try at least, but patch it!

dark messiah is pretty good you can do things you cant in oblivion but its so linear

When Crysis comes out, snag that game as soon as you get a chance. It looks like it was almost designed with purely eye candy in mind.

I'm wondering if people are remembering Doom 3's "Ultra" settings that, when the game came out, weren't even meant for modern hardware. You should give that a whirl, see what all the hubub is about.

Also, try some HL2 with bloom lighting on and AA and AF bumped up all the way.

doom3 and quake4 at ultra don't really look that different from very high quality

Half-Life 2: Episode One at 2560x1600 with 16XAF and 6XAA, all texture, lighting, and shadow settings maxed. I've been replaying it lately and just marvelling at the graphics. The real-time 3D in this game produce screenshots that look as good as print ads and box art, or even compare to pre-rendered stuff like the Final Fantasy movie at points.

Also gotta give some props to Quake 4, with the same high settings. The designers really went overboard with the environments. It's a technofetishist's paradise. Some of the imagery is absolutely incredible, except for the way the outdoor stuff looks. The Source engine is far more capable than the Doom 3 engine for that stuff.

Man I'd love to see a screenshot of that at 2560x1600.

I'd probably leave FEAR out of this list in favour of Far Cry.
You're crazy... Sure, Far Cry's environments may be far more appealing than FEAR's repetitive maintenance tunnels and endless office corridors, but as far as graphical quality, there's no contest. I'd put HL2 in the same boat (in fact, for me it's been there since release day, when you look at it next to Doom3...).

If we're going to argue aesthetics, I'd personally put Psychonauts or Beyond Good & Evil or American McGee's Alice over any one of them. But from a technical standpoint, I don't see how there's any question about it.

Man I'd love to see a screenshot of that at 2560x1600.
If your HL2 resolution is already limited by your monitor resolution, a 2560x1600 screenshot won't look any sharper or clearer on your monitor - just bigger. If you want to get an idea of what it'd look like, try the zoom key :D .

If overall graphics (inside and outside environments) are considered, Half Life 2 Episode 1wins hands down. Almost every other game has something that makes you go...UGH!!!
