I'm almost 18... and my parents are getting me a fat present. I've had a 17' CRT for a long time now so it's time for an upgrade. I'm an avid gamer so I will need the fast refresh rates, not to mention, I've used CRT's all my life so ghosting would be suicide for me

Anyways, looks like the 2001fp is the best choice? I heard the 2005 is widescreen so that wouldn't be a good choice for gaming and I know for sure that the new... 2405 or whatever is WAYYYYYY to expensive.

Thanks for all the help guys

Widescreen IS good for gaming, as it lets you see more of the area you're in. If you're worried about framerate at widescreen resolutions, any decent graphics card will run 1680x1050 (the 2005FPW's native resolution) extremely well. Or you can just run the games in windowed mode, problem solved.

Or if it's widescreen support you're worried about, most modern games do support actual widescreen (as opposed to just stretching the image like some games do.) And again, you can run in windowed mode if necessary.

No reason not to go with the 2005FPW, IMO.

every LCD has ghosting or motion blur or w/e you call it so technically there is no LCD suitable for you...also you should be looking at the pixel ms rating for determing how good it should be for gaming. sometimes manufacturers arent all that honest though and actual pixel response times could be much higher. if you want a good gaming LCD and the games you paly support ws, then get a 2005FPW and some kind of higher powered graphics card that can run 1680x1050. the widescreen mode in widescreen enabled games does make a difference; you can see more than the 4:3 user, which might or might not come in handy. my 2005FPW is fine and i only play it at 1280x768 in CSS and normal cropped 1280x1024 in FT which is the only other game i play.

I would not go that far and just say that "no LCD suitable". response time is kind of like refresh rate for CRT monitors. I could just as well say that all CRT monitors strobe. but as with CRTs you can get one with a high refresh rate and the strobing be come less apparent. Same different with refresh rates with LCDs although not as good (right now) and not so user configuabul.

I am not saying that LCDs do not ghost, but at lower responce times some people might not see the ghosting. or it might be less apparent to them. so with that, he might very well find a LCD that is suitable as with anyone else.

Yea I think it basically boils down to the 2001fp or 2005fp... hmm choices, choices...

The 19" Hyundai L90D+ with its 8ms panel would be faster then the 2001FP or 2005FPW so there would be less ghosting if you dont want a 1600x1200 native resolution.

The 2001FP and 2005FPW are nice though because of the wider viewing angles but you'll need a higher-end system to play games at 1600x1200 or higher with max settings in-game.
