Hey y'all I have been researching LCDs for a while now.. I am a graphic designer that is looking for a widescreen (or wider screen). I have been looking at NECs and Samsungs, I really like the samsung 204T. The only thing is that it is a little too expensive.. BUT it has a pixel ptch of .256 and a 700:1 contrast ratio. and it is silver to match my powerbook(not that it matters lol) but can anyone help me in finding a LCD with great color and sharp images/text for less than 400$ in widescreen? or am I stuck dishing out more dough?

Hey,

Couple quick things. If you're looking for widescreen the 204T is not. Now I did own one for 2 weeks and absolutely loved it for design work(after a basic calibration, to tell ya the truth the colours outta the box weren't that bad at all), but sadly I did return it because I found gaming unbearable. The motion blur on it's 16ms response time made me sick. The 204T did ahndle and transition gradients very well which is my pet peeve with most LCD monitors and the tighter dot pitch made small images smoother.

For the price I've looked at Dell 2005fpw's here at work and I would say go that route. You'll get your 20inches of widescreen desktop and good colours. I personally don't own one because I need something I am content to game on as well, otherwise that's the only thing holding me back from buying a 2005.

If you don't mind builtin speakers (which aren't that bad as most people make them out to be,) I'd recommend the HP F2105. It uses a samsung 8-bit S-PVA panel which is gorgeous. The colours do need minor tinkering out of the box but when calibrated correctly looks stunning. I beleive the more expensive 21 eizoflexes use the same panel.

I use mine for graphic work and usually have the speakers disabled by plugging in some headphones. (you cannot turn off the speakers unless the monitor is turned off).
