Best IPS under $300

Yeah but with that I found out its not a true 8 bit IPS panel. Its more like a 6 bit TN panel isn't it...

Yes it is 6 bit, but it 100% does not matter unless you look at grey gradients all day with your face pressed up agaisnt the screen.

That is where I am confused. Everyone screams about how bad 6 bit TN panels are. Yet everyone loves 6 bit IPS panel? That doesn't make sense.

Only people who don't know what they are talking about. On a modern TN you will be pressed to find dithering, same thing goes for IPS panels.

The issue with TN's are the viewing angles, the issue with IPS is the AG coating and tinting. The bits don't matter, just like both have an equal chance of having backlight bleeding and stuck pixels.

Ok that I can understand. That was well put....

I have a TNs and a 6bit IPS here and I have to get real close and look hard on the IPS to see any gradiation on my background image. On the TNs it's fairly obvious. Maybe the TN I have is just a bad example. A few days ago I tested out another TN (VE249H), pretty sure that was more obvious with it too, but not as much as the vg236h I have here now.

However, what NCX said is more the issue, though I would also likely add black detail to the list, at least in my experience.
